hi all! just got my first car, a mk4 polo N-reg (ignore the mistake i made on my username) anyways the cars lookin gd as it is and i dont want to modify it alot, tho ive been offered a set of nice vw multi spoke 15" alloys 195x50's for 100 quid and im quite interested altho the cars suspension hasnt been modified to my knowledge and is currently on 13" 175x65's ..... i'd like to know if these wheels would be ok n wouldnt rub or knacker the gearbox or if id need to get the suspension done ?? if this is the case whats the cost??

As long as the PCD is 4x100 and the inner bore 57.1 then they should fit fine. You will get no rubbing at all (i'm lowered about 70mm all round and still doesn't scrub), although I did notice that my car seemed more off the ground because the alloys were bigger than original. Another thing to take into account is that because the tyre profile is 50, where on a 15" it should be 45, your speedo will be slightly out.

ok im confused...whats pcd ? im new to this car mod business! how much do u think the speedo would be out?

Don't worry, you've got to start somewhere!

PCD is Pitch Circle Diameter, it is the distance from the center of one of the four studs to the one directly opposite. In this case it is 100mm. If they are 4x100 (four bolt holes which are 100mm apart) and the center bore (the hole in the middle) is 57.1 (I think) they then will go straight on otherwise you will need to sort out some wobble bolts and spigot rings.

Shouldn't put the speedo out by too much, maybe 5mph?

cool...i'll try n take one of the crappy hub caps off n measuring it if i can fight the snow! or maybe just check the hayes book n see if it tells me...NEWS FLASH!!! my dads just came in after visiting a local alloy dealer guy and told the guy how im thinkin of 15s and the guy spoke to him and let him know tht they do new and used vw alloys...anyways heres the funny part he GAVE my dad one to bring home and show me, after my dad saying "mate u dont even know me" ...to which the guy replied "i know but i cant do anythin with the 3 wheels and your not gonna do anythin with one" anyways the guys offered me these used 13's with vw centres and hes gonna put new tyres on the alloys and fit the wheels for 80 quid! so now my problem is....used 5 spoke 13's with my wheels fitted for 80 quid or used 15's with mixed condition wheels and not fitted for 100 quid? what to do......

Hmm, thats a tricky decision. Do you have any pictures of the 13's? Where you from mate? This bloke sounds like a handy guy to know lol

If you do get these, once the tyres need changing you should change all 4 to 195/45/15, otherwise if you lower it in the future, you might run in to clearance issues (I did on my MK4).

Welcome to the site mate. Get some pics up of the 13"s, I'd lean towards them more so though as the 15s have the wrong profile tyre!

thats the 13s , quite damaged but only scratches the balance has been checked...also ther vw so no need to tell the insurance! some of the other pics are a bit edited n ill spray the mirror when i hav time!
