Hi peeps

I just got my new car so I ripped out my Kenwood DVD Audio system from my old car.
On the Kenwood system it has a Head unit and a sort of control box which I placed in the boot of my old car. The ISO lead then runs to the back of the car and into the control box.

Anyway as you can imagine the ISO lead is like uba long, I mean like maybe 3 or 4 Metres. Now in the old car I was not really bothered about having loads of excess wire cos it was al covered up by my boot build, but I dont have a boot build in the new car, well not a like Custom boot build (not yet anyway).
So i want to shorten the wires, whats the best way of doing this? Just Cut and Solder or is their another way?

Have you got a picture of the wire in question? Personally I wouldn't go hacking wires, it reduces the quality of them. I'd either find a replacement shorter wire, Or hide the wire underneath the carpets.

I dont have a pic but imagine an ISO lead for a regular sterio and add like 4 Meters to it lol. Its a lot of wire to hide hehe

Ah okay I'm with you. Well you could cut and crimp them with regular steros connectors you buy from Halfords etc.. But as i said you may experience very slight reduction of quality, it's often small and insignifcant, and aslong as the connections are clean it shouldn't really matter for an ISO. But it's up to you whether you decide to or not.

cutting them and resoldering them is fine
but you also have the large bus lead and aerial lead that are also the same length as the iso loom
personally i would loom it all up neatly and hide the excess in the sills as there is plenty of room to hide it all

Thanks for the info guys, as for the Radio aerial lead and the component cable they are much tidier than the ISO lead as there is loads of little wires there

Still undecided as to what to do, might pay for it to be professionally installed hehe altho i bet i can strap and hide all the leads under the back seats.

Nah DIY is the way mate!! Just take your time and don't cut any corners.

Aye i enjoyed putting it in the 6n, cant see it being much different in the GTi hehe
