Connecting Headunit to CD Changer?!

Hello 
I've just bought a polo gti, it had a pioneer head unit in it when i got it. Since getting the car home ive taken out this head unit and put in my blaupunkt one. There was a plug that wasn't connected to the pioneer head unit which fitted straight into my blaupunkt one (its the green/blue/yellow one). this then powered the cd changer so i could take out the magazine and put cd's in. But i could seem to get my head unit to link to the cd changer ie no info came on the head unit!!
Any help would much apprieciated
