What would be the best way to go about putting a turbo in a 1.6 6N? Custom manifold would be in order as i cant seem to find any at all for polo's. Just wondering on people's thought's and recomendations. Has anyone done this before?

will be a mare to do

cost loads

probs wont make that much power for the time and effort spent

more than likely be unreliable

You can buy a ready made k03 kit for around £4000 (euros). But if your going your own diy way, the standard 4-1 manifold is a good starting point, your biggest problem is compression ratio's with the 1.6, you need to lower it, easiest way 1.4litre pistons, they are shorter. However it also depends on the boost you want, if you are looking for upto 7psi boost the 1.4 pistons are great, if you are looking 7psi+++ then you need 1.4 forged pistons, setting you back a nice £900 (pounds). Best thing is an 1.4 AEX engine with the 1.6 engine head this gives the best possible compression ratio.

Custome pipe work should set you back around the £200 mark for the 4-1 manifolds adapted for the turbo and exhuast etc... as for the turbo you have many options, again all what your after, the k03 is a popular choice, not to big but not to small and has an onboard wastegate. Other options could be a mini metro turbo, tiny little thing I did some calculations it should do the job but it involved pipe down sizing, nice thing being again is it has a wastegate which is mechanically adjusted and its designed for 7psi boost. After all the fitting you need a remap whic can be anywhere £400 (pounds)

Its all down to you the performance gain with forged pistons is incredible with a k03 and other mods, apparently these monsters outrun a gti.

Its not a popular conversion but it has been done mate. Sib seems to know what hes talking about so listen to him lol. There was one guy who done it on here with a custom manifold he welded up himself, 2 head gaskets and a mega squirt ECU from an old Volvo he had lying around. Cant remember the guys name though. He did it to a 1.4 AEX aswell, he did say it flew well for what it was! I think its well worth doing if you can get the bits on the cheap. The AE series engines seem to be tough little bastards so i reckon they can handle it, just dont know what kind of maximum power output you can get from one. I vaguley remember seeing a charged mk3 golf with the 1.6 lump in it that was running over 200bhp (thats if memory serves) and that had thousands spent on it!

Still mate if youve got the get-up and go to do it i think youd get some mad respect for it! even if it isnt a huge bhp'd car its certainly different!
