I'm thinking of buying an aftermarket intake system after hearing a friend of mines' fiat punto sporting that had his air filter changed. it sounded just great.

anyways, i started to browse the web to see what i can find an i came across two manufactures.

1. K&N - specific for Polo GTi http://www.knfilters.com/search/product ... od=57-0569
2. Injen - made for Seat Ibiza Cupra. this one i suspect shouldn't be much a of a problem. http://www.injen-europe.com/site/index. ... atStatus=2
i also heard some mates saying that if i get the intake from an ibiza cupra it will make a splendid sound.


which would you buy ? i'm also open for other ideas...

the injen looks the better of the two however as its for an ibiza you may have to make some modifications to get it to fit. shame theyre too lazy to give an actual picture of the product as it would be easier to tell how much effort is involved. Id personally go for the injen and just make it fit lol.

Injen's stuff is pretty good. The SA boys did a GB for some of the Injen goodies for their Golf Mk5 GTi's. All were pretty happy.

I wouldnt go for either. You will be best of getting a good panel filter and fitting a pd160 intake. This way you wont get the heatsoke like you will from the konw filters.

Theres quite a few good panel filters out there !

I was anti cone filter.. wanted to keep the box with panel filter, etc,etc...

But one day I did put a cone filter direct onto the MAF.... it sounds just great... and works a treat...

Dont bother with the 57i kits they charge too much for a c**p bracket and a piece of pipe... you just need a good bhp rated cone that fits the MAF... and a small one for the other pipe that comes off the air box...

We log lots of 1.8T on the road... and see what is happening to air flow.... cars with induction kits of one description or another DO flow more air, and on some its quite noticeable...

Heatsoak.. another long debate.... but whatever temp that air going in... soon as it hits the turbo it aint cold anymore...

Whatever happens... sounds really nice.... i just get a nice delicate dump from the FMCL007P... sweet..

This is also very true. But having a slightly cooler IAT prior to compressor will be beneficial, but only by an incredibly small margin. Some will say it's negligible.

I will agree the cone always sound better!! But The pnale will give better results!

i agree, the intercooler does all the work, get a cone i did a stainless steel mesh one works a treat easy to clean and sounds awsome with the forge tip. and 007p!

I fitted a cone and it done my head in plus it makes your engine bay flithy!!

I fitted and K%N panel with the drilled airbox......sounds nice and you get a slight "woosh" from the DV

i thought of this as well, but i wasn't sure about drilling the airbox. anyways, i sent a mail to the guys at Injen to ask if the ibiza CAI is compatible with the polo. i hope they will answer. i have a friend with a golf gti. he fitted an injen CAI and it sounds and works very well. the only problem is that the filter is situated down in the front bumper and he has to wash it very often as it gets very messy all the time.

the injen CAI has a + for design as well


LATER EDIT: what do you thing about the BMC CDA filter ? it is designed especially for the 1.8T and i think if i remove the air box it should fit in the engine bay

I personally would have a filter down low behind the bumper... they get too dirty.. and big puddles mean you risk sucking up too much water and risking hydrolock... I have seen these on customer's cars and it would worry me...

Drilled air box with panel filter is a good solution.... but it has been shown many times before that just drilling the airbox is enough... performance panel filter not required.

Bigger turbo... then for sure you ditch the airbox... partly cos you'll bigger MAF tube.. and that doesnt easily fit the airbox.. but fits a fat cone easily...

Different types of cone make different amounts of noise... mine is sort of paper based.. so not too much noise.... It really impressed me when I put it on... more pleased than i thought I would be...
