Alarm goes off by itself

I have a problem as above. Last night the alarm woke me up, went to see and found nothing wrong. The same happened some two weeks ago, but as the car was parked outside and I saw nobody around the car, I thought well, maybe a cat set it off? This time the car was in the garage, which was locked, and no cats around... When I unlock the door then the blinkers flash and it beeps 4 times (normally 2x for lock, 1x for unlock), and the red LED keeps flashing as if the alarm is still armed.
So I guess it goes off randomly, by itself??? What could be the cause for that?
The alarm is cobra, model 7777 (says the fob), IMO aftermaket fitment... The car is 6n2 1.4 100bhp, 2000 model.

Count the number of led flashes, it will be in a sequence, do you have a user manual? The cobra model no is on the siren unit. The 4 beeps indicate that the alarm has been activated, the led pulse sequence is from a cobra 7158.
Single pulse flashing of LED: One
alarm state caused by opening of the
boot, bonnet or doors.
Twin pulse flashing of LED: One
alarm state triggered by accessory
sensors.
Triple pulse flashing of LED: Alarm
state triggered by the ultrasonic
sensor or glass break.
Quadruple flash repeated regularly:
Alarm state caused by an attempt to
start the car.

Thanks for the info. I stripped the plastics under the steering wheel and checked all the wires and the contacts. evrything seems to be fine, all alarm wires soldered nicely to the car wires. Traced one wire to the boot light (boot alarm) and that one was only wrapped around the boot light wire, so I soldered them together and wrapped with some insulating tape. Since I got one flash from the LED, I hope this was the cause. Just to make sure, I sprayed the plug-in on the siren with some wd-40. And the alarm hasn't gone off since... (yet)
