If people could possibly post up some photos of how they have fitted their air filters it would be much appreciated so I can see how to do it? I can only seem to find photos of BMC's when searching and that all seems different!

They really are a waste of money...

But, anyway, remove the airbox and put the new filter in.

Pretty simple from what I've heard, but I doubt you will notice much of a difference (apart form a better sound, and higher petrol consumption!)

I have a BMC CDA on my Mk5 and if the cold air feed is good enough you can lower your MPG. i have

Thanks Howard, what about the pipe from the top of the heat shield that joins in a T to the cold air feed for the air box, joins next to the wheel arch.

If I dont put the air filter on a pipe to access better cold air it will be useless right? SO, I need to pipe it down to where it meets the wheel arch now? But then what a about the above?

I'm fairly sure Ive said lot of things twice, but Im hoping one of the patient people can help!?

You want a pipe/sleeve from the throttle body to the filter. And then a cold air pipe from the filter to a place where it feeds cold air best. This may be somewhere behind the front grills, bumper or to a wing. Where is the standard feed located on the 6N?

If your finding alof of pictures of BMC setups, study them. Look at where they locate the cold air from. You basically want a cold air feed from one of those locations and place your filter where the actual BMC is placed.

Here he has a sleeve from the throttle body to the air filter, then a feed from the filter to what looks like the bumper or wing.

Because its a cone type though the filter is on the end of the pipe? So surely the pipe goes down to the arch where it draws from now and is secured there with the airfilter on the end?

6n cold air feed is from the nearside arch for ref.

Ah so you have a pipe that leads from the throttle body to the front of the car, on the end of which is the air filter?

Yeh there's nothing wrong with that. Just make sure the filter is in no place where it'll get too out i.e near the manifold. Or anywhere where it would draw alot of moisture in.

What size reducer pipe do I need for the 90 degree bend? And what about the pipe size?

It depends on the size of your throttle body and filter. In terms of piping 1M is generally enough, depends exactly where you want to stretch it to though.

1.4 elbow was 50-70 bend, not sure if same as 1.6. I also needed just over 1 meter but with a 16v the throttle body is slightly more to the right giving room to mount the BMC in the other direction, making the cold air feed a lot shorter.

Now I know exactly what I need to know, It is what size is the Throttle body on the 1.6 so I can choose my elbow pipe

51mm... Don't use the standard 6n cold feed, simply because its a canister with a slit that is 1cmx3cm big as it also the carbon filter for other fumes. Best place for cold feed is the bottom of the bumper. I previously cut out the corner slits in the 8v lower bumper grill and strapped a 70mm cold feed down there. Other places are straight behind the upper grill, problem being there is alot of heat from engine and manifolds, but alternative is insulating the manifolds and cold air feed pipe, depending on your set up, that's my 2 pence.
