Lights on dash stopped working

Hi everyone. The lights on the clock etc.. behind the steering wheel and on the dash (heater etc..) have all stopped working suddenly. This happened previously ages ago - was told we'd have to buy another control panel or something. But then it started working again. I don't know if this is connected but I can remember flashing my lights either with the engine off or on but without headlights, and straight after they started working. Sounds ridiculous but is there a way of turning the lights back on somehow? Can't see it being a faulty control panel when I managed to get them working last time...

Thanks

Darran

Another thing - on my mileage counter, 'service' keeps appearing when I turn the engine on, it's dead annoying

It sounds like it's a blown fuse. Check under the driver's footwell, the fuse box is down on the left.

IIRC, the details of which fuse is which is behind the storage thingy in the footwell, just pull it out and read it on the back.

Have a look in the manual too to check how to do it all.

:)

OK will try that, how about the mileage meter? How do I get it to stop saying "service" when I start the engine?

My dad's checked all the fuses, they're all ok.. What else could it be? It seems weird that the petrol warning lights and full beam lights both work but nothing else does...

Thanks for the tip about the 'service' thing - worked a treat!

Hmm, in that case I don't know. :S

I would take it in to a local garage for them to have a look at it - it may require some rewiring, but don't quote me. I am only guessing sorry.

Hi. On my Australian Polo ('97) the trip meter and reset buttons are different - combined odometer/trip meter, and only one clock button which is turned L or R for hour or minute adjustment. The method of how to reset the service message as described in your website link does not work on this car. Any ideas - please??
