After the last few nights, and my mate getting a turbo for his sirrera and slightly convinceing me, i have decided on putting a turbo on my car. Not gonna too massive. Looking at this http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobyga ... 6755_3.htm should give me between 100-200 bhp.


And i can easily get a manifold to. Have had confimation from a company saying that there would be no problems with it and it is a good size to get. Just need to find out a little more like spool time etc and then this will be a slow project but might leave it for a summer project. Looking at putting intercooler down at bottom of rad or even going crazy and getting two at the bottom of each grill. Depends if i get a 16v bumper. Was even gonna think about putting it where the grill is by removing grill or putting it behind.

Exhausts this weekend then forward from there!

Should be fun. Anyone else ever done this?

Though, the weak point, as always, is the gearbox So you may well have to get it strengthened

Curently starting a turbo conversion myself and I got to say your optimistic with the 100 to 200bhp gains, no offense. Theres alot to take it, its not as simple as shove a turbo on, link the pipes wollah and a remap. Their is alot of maths to be done before you even start ive only done 20% of the formulas and until im confident enough of what I see on paper, no major mechanics will be done.

You face alot of problems, boost is just one thing. It all depands on what your after you will need to drop the compression, best start with an AEE engine with AEX or APQ pistons thanks to the lower stroke of the pistons letting you drop the compression. Then you have a huge limitatiion, standard pistons suck c**k. 7psi of boost max, and you will loose 1-2psi simply due to the filter and intercooler. Only then on an AEE engine with that boost (7psi) your only seeing maybe 105bhp max. To push the engine to good terms onto what you are on about is another thing... You need to go forged with custom pistons and rods setting you back a good £1000 before any pipe work begins. Depending on how you spec the rods and pistons will determine your car performs, whether you have a monster with alot of wear and rebuilding, whether you have a good street race car or whether it be a more casual car.

You will also need to uprate the clutch too, so expect alot more money to go to waste on that before any plumbing begins, then you face problems with the MAF sensor, this can only read upto 3-4psi, so you might need to change to a g40 ecu, change to a standalone managment system, find a better MAF sensor.

Then you will need better injectors like the g40 ones, followed by a new fuel pressure regulator, then intercooler, bigger rad, better brakes... the list really does go on.

I'm sorry for bursting your bubble but there is alot of research you really must do before you even think of starting this, if its a DIY job expect alot of money gone, easily £2000++ Main thing is alot of research go and buy a few books in regards to turbos and see what its all about, hardest thing is to convert a natrally aspirated engine diy style. I can go on for ages but it will be over a year long project and alot of money involved. Any questions don't be afraid to ask.
