Ya i was speaking to the gearbox boff, at this place and he reckons for the money you pay on uprated bearings, its not worth it. take this for example
My box has lasted 96800 miles on the on the original bearings, there is no reason why it wont last another 90K on a new set of standard bearings. by then im sure i would have moved on to something else. S3 maybe
.

Probably hasn't been done then. You could always ring up the previous owner? Also check the gearbox out, see if there's any markings etc on it that would suggest it's been out before, or is not the original.
