can lowering you car put excessive strain on your gear box? this is not what iv said but what iv been told by my local VW who are refusing to do warrenty work on their faulty gear box

Excessive lowering can put strain on the where the drive shafts enter the box ... but damage more likely through natural failure or your crazy driving ... lol

Excessive lowering = lower than where most people have been... your H&R springs are nor going to affect your gearbox.. thats a plain stupid idea...

remove the springs and take to another dealer best bet, as they will try to get out of anything, but in this current eco climate i cant see why they would refuse as they get paid off vw for the work???????

yh i was thinkin the same bt takin off the sprins in gona cost money and then more money to put them back on. VW are jus liers

you could fit the back springs yourself takes about 10 minutes each side and get somebody to do the front for you cheaper than a new gearbox a no brainer if you ask me.

yh thats tru but at them same time all the problems that hav happend get recorded on the system so if i took it 2 another vw place they would see wts gone on from the engineers report would they not ?

that would be true if any of them actually had engineers, up here in Scotland my local vw arnold clark state they don't have any mechanics but the have technicians in other words glorified fitters who wouldn't know how to strip a carb down and rebuild but would know how to change one over. no disrespect to the true mechanics at any vw garages, however they are few and far apart. I would take my chances and deny having the car lowered once rectified. example of their incompetence three visits to get a reverse light switch replaced two visits for them to find out why the lights weren't working and one visit to come back to have it fitted as not in stock a joke eight hours for a ten minute job max which is a common fault. take your chances mate.

Sounds like the dealer is getting confused with lowered 4WD, which is very much more sensitive to ride height and uneven tyre wear than front or rear wheel drive.

Unless the driveshafts are permanently inverted (pointing up at the hub end) and have no travel, there's no way gearbox damage can result from lowering alone, and even if it did for some bizarre reason, all that would happen is the diff bearings would wear prematurely and you'll get a gear oil leak past the flange seals.

I've only seen that happen once during my 19 years of modified VW ownership and that was a mate's lowered MK2 Golf. It was so low he junked the helper springs on his H&R coilovers to get it lower than 100mm.... idiot!

lol well i will hav a go with the dealer i bought it from this time and see if i have any luck there

Harnz yes go to another dealer, my polo gti is in the garage at the moment and they have replaced the dual mass flywheel, console bush's plus other work done! the first vw garage i went to didn't look at the car at all, the so called technician said the vibration on the cluctch was normal!?!?!?! so try anothe dealer mate

yh the dealer the car was purchased from said they will do the work providing i change the springs back over, thats good in away but at the same time thats more money i have 2 use takin springs on and off. the problem started befor the springs were on the car so i would have thought springs would not matter

what a sh1te dealer network, mine went in for a new rear caliper , air mass meter, radiator, all when it was slammed on coilovers and different alloys , chipped etc etc! My local dealer did all the work even though i had to diagnose everythin for em LOL!"!

looooool my bro had a word wid a audi tech about vag warrenty the other day and apparently both dealers iv been to shud fix the gear box regardless of the springs so im gona jus take in and tel them whats what as. alos need 2 get my new shock on as even tym the car hits a bump it feels lyk theres no spring n its jus breaking things beacuse of the drop links, and leaking shock

any one no wer i can get som good bushes from as there worn now too according to vw
