Anyone ever tried it?

I had a quick go last night, just out of curiosity. Did 2 runs in my 1.2 65bhp - had my phone and steering wheel in right hand, and gearstick in the left. The first one (which felt the stronger of the 2) resulted in a time of 0.0secs - stoopid phone didn't start timing!

On the second run, still had a pretty decent launch, albeit with a touch of wheelspin, but produced a pathetic time of 15.6secs - I think VW's official time for my car is about 15secs dead. This was performed with just myself in the car (which has done about 2400 miles), although with almost a full tank of petrol (which I didn't realise until after I'd done it, trying to think of excuses for how I got such a crap time!) Might try again when the cars running on fumes.

I know it's rather childish, but I simply had to try this once, before I move onto my next car!

I tried that last year with my mate doing the times and a full tank of diesel and I still got 9.3secs when VWs time is 10.7, I was well impressed and that was with a crap start cos id got no revs on when my mate said go!

It's very hard to get an accurate figure, but from my rough figures I got a time of 9 seconds flat. Need to re do it actually when summer arrives...lol so 1 day this year then

Impressive times, diesel boys. I did consider asking for some 1.9 TDi attempts, as all being well, I'll be getting one in the next few months.

I'm surprised so few of you have had them chipped. I'd defo get it chipped, if I do get one.

I know i got 9.3 without even trying so I don't know how VW get 10.7??

Next Time I come back over the Severn Bridge I'll take a stop watch, that's the best place
Last time I tried it I had just under 11 seconds, but that was me counting the times the dot's flashed on the clock

Some of the figures from VW are quite far out, I was approaching 120 on an airstrip the other day and still had some to go, but didn't know how long it takes to stop and was running out of tarmac. I would imagine a TDI may get up to 130.

Guys it's a known fact car manufactures keep their figures down, why? I'm not too sure, maybe to keep prices down and insure premiums..

Although I can't be sure my car has more 100bhp than standard, it feels like it, and VAG COM registered something like 270 NM of torque.

And my car is a group 6 I don't feel like I'm being short changed.

I also think when my car has done about 10k, I can get the 0-60 time under 9 seconds.. the thing is if I chip it I won't get the power down properly, the wheels will spin knocking off serious time, I should have ordered ESP, but I didn't, what a kn@b I am And tyres need to be considered, because my curent ones aren't up to the job as it is.

Need to look into VAG-COM doing 0-60 runs, if it can be done

I think you'd find people sueing the companies if they over-claimed their bhp and performance figures.

Subaru are one of the worst offenders - and vw seem to also be far far out. It does keep the premiums down too.

Insurance group 6 is amazing for a 100bhp motor! Rather like the Lupo GTI aswell.

The thing is though so many cars are guilty of this. My old ST170 had 175 bhp, the zetec s about 107 bhp, my other cars weren’t checked so don't know.

It could just be all cars all come out of the factory a little different.

I mean some people says theirs are fast while others say theirs are sluggish. So it seems the odd BHP does show. It’s strange though as they’re all built with the same parts and software etc

I think in general PD engines put out around 15-18 BHP more then standard. Have a look on Revo's website, there is a power graph of a 100 BHP 1.9 PD with before and after figures IIRC they where 116 and 151 after. ESP is a must if your going chip one, can be a handful in 1st in the dry never mind the wet, 3rd gear wheel spins didn't think that was possible!

Have you got a chipped 1.9 TDi, jedi? Actually, that was another question on my mind - whether I should plump for ESP or not. Trouble is, I've heard many stories of the system being a little unpredictable - over-zealous exits out of junctions resulting in a complete cut of power etc. Perhaps I should save the £400 or whatever it is, and practice in the arts of manual traction control!

i havent tried testing my 1.4 100bhp yet...
VW claim 10.9 secs but ive read a magazine and it said >10sec

The reason why you are all bettering your performance figures is becaseu all cars in the VAG group are tested half laden (ie two people plus luggage and half a tank of fuel) the closest true to life figures are in 'VW Motoring' BTW my 1.9tdi was around the 9 second mark to.

Why don't you all factor in 30-50 (third gear) and 50-70 (third gear and another using 3rd/4th) times, then I'm sure you'll all be shocked.

Yeah pull in 3rd is very good, I'll have to give this a go

havent got my 1.2 mk6 yet but for my old mk4, VW said it was 14.9secs for my 1.4 8v but i did it in 13.5secs with 2 mates on board!
