Gearbox oil leak

My car was sat on the drive for 2 days, finally moved it to see, a small patch of gearbox oil, is this a common problem, a lot to get soretd :(

Not a good thing by any means. DON'T drive it.

Is it definitely gearbox oil? it's possilbe you've got a cracked casing, or a knackered gasket. Get it on stands and inspect it further.

pretty sure it is, its clear, and smells like cat wee lol, and it was from under the engine, so not brake fluid, there was hardly any, and it was there for 2 days, i will take it to my garage tomorrow, and will keep u updated, not heard of anyone with this problem before

Mate I had the same problem what it is is the gear box seal on the linkage has corroed it a little black plastic thing that looks like a polo mint, you will have to go to vw to get one and only they do them I think it was like £5. and unless you have a mechanic ramp it will need to go into the garage to get fixed apparently it's a common fault with the 6n2.

So basically go to vw and ask for the seal where the gear box shaft goes into the gear box they should know what you mean. And that will solve it

Official name is the selector seal ;) Happens on mk3s through mk5s lol

glad its fixed... flipping took me ages to fugure out what it was lol
