Cylinder Head Gasket

Have had a 2000 W 1.0 Polo for about a month now. Had it serviced when bought it (privately) all filters changed, and everything except leads. Before we picked it up the nice fella we bought it from had the clutch box problem sorted out to make sure 'he could sleep at night' blah blah blah.

We now have a flashing temp gauge, (replaced it with new one and still flashes), it idles erratically and there is oil in the coolant. The gearchange has to be the most vague and lifeless gearchange I have ever felt and it is completely flat in first and second.

My questions are:

Is a sloppy gear change a trait of this car?

Could the cylinder head gasket gone?

What would be the expected cost if it has?

Thanks in advance

get it checked out ASAP. if it's heating up, then you could do a lot of damage. It would be a very odd thing to go wrong, but you never know.

Oil in coolant is never good. Check the connections on the temp gauge aren't shorting - this can cause the sensor to be maxed out.

It sounds like it needs to have a quick once-over, compression tests are about 30-40 quid.

Hope you sort it
