Is it possible to do the above? My mate says that you can cause he knows a few people that have done it on vauxhals, but he said it might be different for vw's.

it is possible but the hassle ud have u may aswell get a full valver engine! coz ud need to change the pistons for 16v pistons due to ther bein cut outsin them, 2 exhaust valves and 2 intake valves per cylinder so 4 in total and the pistons on 8v engine only have 2 per cylinder therefore ud get the valves hitting piston and that is no good! lol
plus im not even sure the block would be able to take the strain of the higher compression ratio!

sooo in conclusion just get a 1.8t 20v engine and bang that in!!

I would'nt bother, just get a valver engine, its to complcated if it is possible, as the valvver is a DOHC and the 8v engines are SOHC engines.

Best bet then is just to stick in the 16v engine in then.

....and if you're gonna fit a 16v engine then you might as well go one step further and go for a 1.6 16v lump from the 6n2 GTI.
