Gearbox advice

My polo was making a whining noise when I changed gears and also when slowing down. Took it to a local garage who took it for a spin and told me that the gearbox is knackered (which seems to be a common problem). Driving back home the gears were getting harder to engage

Thing is, I'm not sure what to do next. The garage I took it to said they could send it to a garage they use but could cost upto £1k to fix

.Is it best to get one from here:
http://www.volkswagenspares.com/page.php?page=Gearboxes and get someone to fit it?
Or
Take it to someone to have mine rebuilt, only got one quote so far (
http://www.southwalestransmissions.co.uk), who said without seeing it, probably £500 to £700
Or something else?

Hi there. When looking for a gearbox a few months ago I came across these boys
http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/goldings_gearboxes/ . They are based in Dartford, M25 and their prices include fitting. They said that if I turn up on the day they could co it in one day. They are a VAG group gearbox specialist, and if they don't have one re-conditioned in stock they will take yours off, re-condition it on the day and put it back. Give'em a call see what they say.
