Just looking through the service book and it doesn’t say when the coolant needs to be changed. Does anyone know? Also do Polo’s require a particular coolant type?
I drive a 2003 Polo Sport 1.4 16v petrol.
Thanks

According to the Haynes Manual its "VW additive G12 only (antifreeze and corrosion protection)" and they say every two years renew the coolant and also the brake and clutch fluid. For the 1.2 engine its 5.2l required and 5.5l for the 1.4

No, no, G12 or more correctly G12+maybe even G12++ lasts the life of the car - so don't believe Haynes who want you to dump in some other equivalent.

Lol.
Was thinking it may last the life of the car but wasn't sure. If thats the case then I mite do it when it gets to 60,000 for pace of mind if I have the car that long.

G12 does not last the life of the car. Coolant loses its ability to heighten the boiling point and freezing point of water over time, so it will need to replaced at some point (normally around 5 years ish)

Broadly speaking, I agree with what you have written, but as far as I have made out, G12 and G12+(+) does not need to be replaced. Just one other point, in reality all VAG engines with cambelts should/will get their cambelt changed at 4 years or 60,000 miles - and that will mean it gets new coolant as the old stuff will get dumped as waste. Interestingly, Ford have been using "life" coolant for at least 20 years - but they would also get new coolant when the belt was changed.

Rang VW and they said it don’t needs changing or less it goes cloudy…lol.
Think I’m going to wait till I get near to 60,000 to change it. As my mechanic said to leave it a little longer.
Thanks for your help.
