Hi all,

My girlfriend is thinking of selling her Polo 6N2 GTi, and I was just after some advice please!

To the best of my knowledge, I have tried to list the spec. below of her GTi.

A garaged Polo 6N2 GTi in silver, with 2 previous women drivers.
X plate 2000.
64 000 miles on the clock.
No engine Mods or bodywork Mods. Completely standard and unmodified.
Full service history. Most of it by VW apart from the last service. Air conditioning serviced by VW last summer and fully working.
New gearbox fitted with 1 years full warranty. Gearbox was supplied and fitted by 'GearLink' Services. (http://www.gearlink.co.uk)
Extended warranty has just expired.
Taxed and MOTed till July/August this year.
4 good tyres and 60K service carried out in December (2008).
Bodywork in good condition with the odd chip here and there. In good condition for its age.
Alloys need some minor work doing to them. But I have heard this is a common issue with the BBS alloys supplied on the car.
Interior is in very good condition. Original carpets still supplied in the car and in good condition. No rips or tears in upholstery.
The car has all the standard 'toys' that come with the GTi. Heated mirrors, air con, power steering, air bags, etc!
Kenwood CD stereo with iPod adapter in glove box.Bluetooth hands free kit fitted and fully working.6 disc CD changer in boot.
Car has been used to transport my son around and get my girlfriend to and from her part time job. It has been a garaged car ever since we have had it!

All in all she is a very tidy car. I have taken it out afew times and she drives like a dream. Reason for sale is we have an expanding family and my girlfriend now needs a bigger car. I have a motorbike and a company car.

I was just after a price guide for what she should expect to get for it, and would you recommend advertising it on your forum?

Will try and add some pictures!

Many thanks for all your help, advice and opinions,

JD

I'd like to know more about gearlink, their only 15mins up the road from me, so have saved there webpage for if/when my box goes bang. How much did they charge for the rebuild?

My 5th gear is whineing between 2000 and 3000 rmp :|

You see a lot of boggo 1.4 polos selling for 2-2.5K..... surley a good GTI is worth around £3-4K...... Obviously the more desireable colour and door combinations will be worth a little more....

Neilw,

The gearbox went recently in my girlfriends GTi and she said there were no real 'symptoms' that it was on its way out at all. She told me that there was a slight whineing noise coming from inside the car back in Novemeber last year. I had used the car a few times, and there was definatly no problems with 5th gear. What I did notice afew months ago when I used the GTi to nip into Salisbury, was that the whinning noise got louder as you went up ther gears. In 4th and 5th a clear whinning noise could definatly be heard from inside the car and I managed to narrow it down to the gearbox, so I sort of new that something wasnt quite right .

When it finally went, I contacted my local mechanic who then dealt with the entire process for me, and he handed the work over to 'GearLink', who he highly reccommended and he had personaly used alot over the years.

The most expensive quote I got was from local VW dealer, who quoted £1300 all in!!

GearLink quoted me a price of £750 all in. They also supply a 1 year, unlimited milage warranty!

As far as I am aware the new gearbox is as good as gold. I havent driven the car since it has been done so I can only go on what my girlfriend has said.
There is no reason why the 'new' gearbox should not last the life of the car.....so I have been told!!

If you have any more questions mate, email me here and I will try and answer them as best I can!

Many thanks,

JD

Awesome cheers for that.

Saw a Silver GTi in Salisbury awhile back my of been your car, Think it was a youngish guy driving. I tend to go shopping there as it much nicer than Southampton. So if you spot a silver lower GTi in the Central car park its probably me.

Thanks again, hopefully the box will hold out as I have much more intresting things to spend my money on than a gearbox rebuild.

Neil
