Well you could always turbo it? But there is camshafts, Con rods, forged pistons, fuel pressure pump, power boost valves, fuel injectors, spark plugs, ht leads... the list can go on but it will all help geta power gain.
You can get it remapped to but dont get it chipped.

i have a friend who used to work for BP and mapped cars all the time. He knows how to do it to get the maximum power out of the car but it will drink so much more fuel. He's such a legend and charges £5 p/h
interested?

There's no sense in getting a re-map, just get some mechanical changes, and THEN get a re-map afterwards, to fine-tune it all. Got a 4-2-1- exhaust manifold, install a fuel pressure regulator, fit a 3F GT camshaft, a good induction kit, then get it re-mapped. Should get you done really low budget, ànd give you definately some more power over all rev's!

Very true. Those are some of the simplest mods you can do.
Jarno, where can you get the camshafts from? I was looking at getting newman or kent cams.

Do what Jarno mentioned as they're the first things you should start with. Best cams to get would be the Schrick ones, which Jarno knows more about as I recall his is a 1.6 also.

Not alot you can do really. Standard things like induction kit, manifold, de cat, cat back exhaust system would make your car sound good and there would be a power gain, not alot though. If you got the whole lot done, spending anything from £500-1k, you got to think is it worth it? Power gain Maybe...... 15-20% which isnt really alot. Standard power is, i think, 50-60BHP so really you will gain about 12-18bhp. May sound alot but it wont be noticeable, trust me. Best bet is look for a bigger engine to put in. Get the 1.6gti. Good engine too. But then it is up to you wether you want to tell the insurance. I know i wouldnt.
