where to get wheel bearings?

hi all

I recently bought a polo GTI 2000w model, i had a problem with a strange sound in the wheel, like a rubbing sound or clicking which got worse, after getting messed about by mechanics who obviously need more training, i took it to 'formula one' and they told me it was the wheel bearing, when they got it up on the lift, he showed me how loose the wheel was.

so i was happy to proceed to replace the wheel bearing. they charged me £78 for the bearing, £45 for labour, £25 for electronic alignment and Vat £25
I thought this was a pretty crazy price, anyway i was just glad to get it sorted, then after 2 days i hear the same sound in the other wheel. :(

so now i am thinking ok i don't want to spend that much money again , i know it's the wheel bearing, so where can i get this part?

that is my question to you lot, where do i find the correct part for my car? when i get this i can take it to the garage and get them to install it for me at a lower cost.

thank you

£45 an hour is about right for an independant garage.....The job would proberably take me 1.5-2.0 hours... they should be quicker!

You need to find your local motor parts supplier and talk to them about the part...

Is this a front or rear bearing?

Either way £78 is a lot for the bearing... unless they replaced something else with it?

If you get the old bearing out it should have a number/code stamped on it.... I tend to avoid the motorfactors and go straight to my local bearing supplier... but then I do have a fair idea of what exactly I am after....

Im afraid you will have to put your mouse down and go outside!

Go to your local motor factors GSF is quite a big one.... give them your reg and tell them what you want and they should be able to find it for you!
