car keeps on ssaying check oil ?

as said above this has happened 4 times since the begining of the year?
its a polo sport 100 1.4 petrol
bearing in mind its shy of 90 000 miles for a 2005 lol
any reasons why it would be losing oil ?
is it burning it ??
how can i check?
alo what oil are people using

1.4 16v sport engines drink a lot of oil apparently.
Chewy may be able to add some words of wisdom.

Its common for this engine to use oil
I am using 5w30 fully synthetic and its a little better but not much, try befriending someone who works in the trade and can get it cheap for you
Also I find keeping it topped up helps

Absolutely, by the way pard, how much oil did you add at a time - did you top it up to the top mark or just tip in a litre? Please tell me you are wiping the dipstick and re-dipping before adding oil - as the sump mounted "oil level sensor" might be faulty and opening and closing the bonnet would clear any spurious warnings. You can get fully synthetic oils from GSF quite cheaply.

yea of course i am doing that.
and it aint the sensor i had that checked from my dads mechanic. its been in today. but i jus wanted to clarify it lol
