Hi people, I’m getting the polo back on the road soon as cant stand the 306 I have at present. Does anyone know if I can fit a 6n2 GTI alternator to my 1.0 MPI or will I need to change alternator brackets ECT? Reason for the swap is I need more power for audio and already have bigger battery and a capacitor. Thanks in advance

Its possible, but the GTI alternator runs in line with the aircon pump, and I think the mounts are different. Also, the higher output could damage the circuitry in the car as its not designed for a 90A output.
What is the problem at present? I never had any problem with my 1.0 for the sound system i was using.

There are no problems yet, I’m forward planning. My current system runs at 3000 watts max and I’m thinking of adding another 2400w amp so I will need more power. I have seen a GTI alternator and bracket cheap and thought this may solve my problem.

lol how much power do you want!

A GTI alternator may help out, but again, if its not new, you wont get full output out of it.
Its not the Watts thats the problem, its the current that your audio equipment will draw, so it might be wise to find that out before you start getting larger parts, as they may not be good enough.

I want too much power; I can see myself becoming deaf before I’m 21

. Yea I’m aware I need to work out the total current in amps that I will draw. I was going to get the alternator reconditioned by a specialist to make sure it’s in good condition. So will it be trial and error when fitting the GTI alternator?

Just done a bit of research - the GTI alternator mount is a special block mount jobby - its a complete cast unit with a tensioner on it, so im not sure itll work for you at all as its a totally different block in so many ways. If it was a 16V you had, it might work, but a 1.0E im really not sure.

alright fella, when i bought my car a 1.4 8v it had a broken alternator =[ crafty woman who sold it didnt mention that bit

but i had it replaced and when i bought the part i got a brand new alternator from a place called veedub services in bristol for somthing like £80 with a friends discound =]
that was a 90amp one for a audi i think. it fitted no problem at all, 8 months down the line no problems!

Thanks allot for the info guys, think I will look into getting the same alternator but with a higher amp rating.
