oil spill help please

came home from work and noticed drive had a big patch on it

,looked at the engine and there was a fair amount of oil all over it,gave it a quick clean and noticed this plug had popped out

i fitted it back in though it wasn't a really tight fit,can anyone tell me what it is(please excuse my ignorance)and is that my problem solved??
any help/replies/comments on my stupidity greatly welcomed lol

only this one tim,someone else told me it's gearbox oil but i don't have a clue

still pretty hard to see, but i'm fairly sure that is indeed your gearbox mate!

Yes your right thats the gearbox oil check point - just make sure the popper stays on there.

Is indeed your gearbox, that hole is used to fill it up with transmission oil. Make sure to refill it now untill it starts to spill out of the hole again. Polo gearboxes are one of the weakest points of Polo's, filling it up to the top will make sure the box stays lubricated perfectly. And since it already spilled out much oil so to see, it's more then wise to refill it up again!
