Welcome to the forum from another NE of Scotland GTI owner!

I also got a replacement box from Goldings and have the same problem with you regarding ratios. The ratios suit motorway driving but I'm getting slightly less to a tank town driving because I have to stay in a lower gear :( They took my old box and said the ratios are exactly the same so I got no idea how the rpm can be so different :?

welcome to the site mate.

You'll need to get it maching polished to get rid of the pink paint fully.

Does the different box not effect acceleration?

My car doesn't pull as well in the high gears, probably doesn't help with the peak torque sitting above 3000rpm
