So, posted this on the wrong thred, people cant reply to it on the show off ur car one, so thanks to some help from chewy, ive found here.

He answered my questions pretty well, just looking for more advice

Bit about me - Im sam, 17 verryyy sooon, cant wwaaaiiit. Got my first car at 13 pug 106 j reg, was going to work on it, fitted a sub, got borred and then my dad kinda took it over, been a good runner passed mot every year, now its time for it to go to the scrappy.

I got my first/second car, polo, 1.4 e 2001 plate, 87k miles, full service hist, and im rather excited. didnt even know what mk this was until i had some advice so im pretty blank to all off this.

Ive noticed another newby thred somewhere, so if u want me to "go away" and look at tht one, tell me.

now for the questions - there going to sound so simple, but i need to start somewhere and i dont think a complete overhall is on the cards.....yet

Insurence :|, neeed it cheap, fully comp if possible, used confused got a quote from quinn for £1700, dont think thats right, got a quote for a 1.2 clio, £2400 AFTER i passed my test, it was £1700 on provisinol. So, the nice lady on the other end of the fone was very nice whilst i kinda was silent in shock and im glad i told the clio to go shove its self. So now i have a polo, 200cc more, faar more nice, going to be expensve. This is gna be the kick in the balls, i suppose having such a siiiick car to start has its downfalls, anyone know of any cheap insurence compants for 17 year olds, HIC anyone had any experience with good prices? NFU, bit countryside but im a keen shooter, so i know that they can offer some deals, again anyone with any rough prices? Any other companys?

I know theres gear gaiters available, spotted some on ebay, sub a tenner, anyone know if these are anygood?, are they "real italain leather" or melted johnnys from bradford?

Got a whole set of snooker balls which i "aquired" from centre parcs, thinking of drilling and tapping it turning it in to a gear knob, i recks 8 ball? or maybe a blue one to suit the colour of the car?

I now know central locking kits are available, where, who, price, quality? experiences etc, also, would the old 106 central locking system fit?

Elecy windows, not really bothered about this, seems a bit like hard work for smaller muscles really, how easy / hard is it?

grill, how dya paint the badge, leave it on, take it off, hamarite?, car paint? back badge, paint that 2?

Double din to single din units? how do i do this, where are the kits available?

Links to any of these products/guides would be kind

Any other mods like the badge painting to make it look better? Have a very tight budget after insurence costs, so cheaper the better

Thanks guys and girls, ur help will be ohhh sooo helpfull. :D :D :D :D

ok firstly we at UK polos dont tell u to "go away" unlike other forums, we like to welcome you here so let me welcome you !

matey if your going to do some modifications to your car, get insured with a company who specialises in young people and mods, brentacre and adrian flux are good to start with, i myself on the policy am paying 1400 because ive declared interior change, alloys, lights changed and also i got 3 points with no no claims, had my licence for 3 years and im 21, and thats with endsleigh insuirance, thats on my polo TDI.. also it depend on your location and the car

You can go for the GTi gaitors, look out for breaking polo GTi's. You can get great parts for them IE, splitter, grills, Xenon headlights, BBS alloys. How bad is your gaitor because i have one and its not THAT bad, but is a little bit worn.

dont know about the 8ball ones, never seen it on a polo

if you aint got central locking it will be a bit tricky if your not good at DIY, so i reckon you can get an alarm fitted with central locking as an option, i paid 150 on my 6n to get it done.

im guessing its hard to fit in electric windows you'll need to find winding motors and have to do some wiring for it

If you got a double din you can take it out and fit one of these in

Image

Then you can fit a single din Head unit in. ( I fit sounds in as a side business, so im good in the sound systems department :P)

You can get this little pocket thing from breaking polos for dead cheap, maybe less then 15 quid

dont know about badge painting though sorry..

any more help just holla mate!

Thanks for the warm welcome, yee been looking around insurence companys have to ring HIC, Quinn, Endsleigh oh and adrain flux, one company i knew about, but forgot about.

A question for all the sound fanatics out there, espesh wv55raz who helped before, i got a sub that i fitted in the 106, jbl £120 set jobby from motor world, not brilliant and was a novelty when i was 14 and all i cared about was s**t noise, now i need something with more range, still love my drum and bass and dubstep, but also need the ability to play normal music with as much clarity, door speakers if possible direct replacements, dont really want to mess with 6x9s, to much hard work and expense, and cant really put a sub in the boot, need the space for my work gear, and are replacements available for the tweeters in the pillar?

Read somewhere else that the gaiter / knobs all atached and the knobs not screwed, if thats true the snooker ball ideas out the window. The gaitors pretty bad, almost verdging on ripped at the front, not really noticable cos its facing towards the front but its still there.

Anyone know of any polos breaking, kind of indeed of a cubby hole, what other ones fit, any golf ones? price of a decent double din is £150 i know thats not to bad, but a single din unit that does all i need, cd and aux hole basically is around £80 - 100, and need to save as much as i can for the insurence. looking at the beetle sunglasses holder aswell, think thats a well smart mod, got to have somewhere to keep the sunnies in the "heat wave" summer

Another thing, interior mods, the door handle things that pop off to remove door cards, can these be painted, if so whats the best colour, was thing of white but might look quite out of place. Also thinking about the badge, change the chrome to black and the back ground to white, like the yellow polo on here on the thred just cleaned the polo or something (thanks for inspiration)

anything can be painted matey and welcome to the site i am also new :D

if you want to paint the badges on the front and back id completely take them off its not a hard job they just unclip off and as for painting them i presume its the standard job for painting, sand it primer it paint it and lacquer it i might be wrong but thats what im doing to mine, all this can be picked up from halfords fairly cheaply

and unfrotuantly yeah the gear knobs are not threaded they have some sort of "C" clip i call it so maybe the snooker ball idea is out the window

as for adrian flux insurance be careful, i got a quote from them and although they were £100ish cheaper they do limit there mileage i told them 1000 miles a year and they asked me for proof from my mot certificate once a year and when i asked them what would happen if i went over they siad my insurance would be invalid  so i went with kwick fit in the end £1300 quid and ive declared my mods ive got 0 NCBs im 19 and this is my first car a 1.4 60bhp 6n2 and ive only got 3 points of my license left

check ebay and message people for breaking GTi's theres always several on there and ive bought a GTi rear axle off there which was an awesome upgrade

as for fitting central locking it is fairly simple and the kits are cheap maplins sell them for around £15 or get them off ebay or get them as a kit with an alarm ive got the TOAD Ai606, will take about 1hr maximum each door the only problem i had when fitting mine was the wire was about 2 inch 2 small lol so i just crimped in a little more wire

oh and as for your double din problem here is a cubby :) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-POLO-golf-GTi- ... 6|294%3A50

hope this helps
