problems with connecting into 16 pin diagnostic plug 2000

I have just bought a Year 2000 Polo S Estate with a 1600cc AKL 100 bhp unit engine and have tried to access the 16 pin diagnostic plug with my Can Bus and OBD scanner Code Reader a Memoscan U581 scanner and it will just not link up to my car . All i keep getting is linking error , i have been in touch with the people who sell the scanner and they say because a cd unit has been fitted that was not originally in the car it disrupts the ecu signals to the scanner and it is a problem on VW cars when Sound systems have been changed , even when its a VW CD System thats been fitted . They say the diagnostics on the Polo's go through the sound system wiring and when other radios or CD units are fitted it stops any scanners being able to connect with the cars ecu and code reading system system . Have any other members had this problem and is there any way of sorting it out and getting a scanner to link up , i have even tried my friends Snap On Scanner code reader and that will not link up either

Another question is what workshop manual do i get for my Estate as they only made it for 2 years 2000 to 2002 i gather its made up from all sorts , Golf , Seat and Lupo and made in Spain !!!!! my engine is a AKL 100 bhp unit . I cannot find any Haynes Manual that covers my estate , do i buy an earlier Polo manual or a later one . Hope some one can help . Cheers Tony
