i was driving home the other day, just came of a motorway and stoped at lights. when pulling away in first, when the revs got to about 2000 / 3000 rpm there was a really loud kind of noise coming from under the bonnet. it happens in 1st and 2nd gear but no others. The car drove fine, and the gear changes were still smooth.
i pulled over asap and took a listen on idle, you can hear somthing coming from down by the gearbox when the engine is on with no revs at all. i was with a mechanic at the time who said it was some thing in the gearbox so i phoned the AA who agreed and towed me away to a garage. ( 2nd time being towed in 3 weeks =[)
the garage looked the next day but the noise when driving has stopped but the noise on idle continues.
they couldnt book me in for a gearbox re build untill yesterday but when they checked it again last night, the noise had stopped!
does anyone know what this could be? the gearbox oil levels are all fine and i just cant get my head around how it had stopped!

if anyone can shed some light, i'd appreciate it

What kind of noise when pulling away mate?

it was a kind of clanky metalic noise, some kind of scraping. potentially a bearing?
i took it home today and the noise appeared after some hard driving. took it back and having the gearbox done on monday now =[
damn cars are expensive!
