Looking for a pretty substancial power gain on my gti, want to do a few bits to the engine. Not really sure what i can do, how much its going to cost and where to get the stuff from. Dont mind spending a bit of money as i am going to be rebuilding my engine anyway.
Any help or advice would be great. cheers guys
Dave.

It really depends what budget you have got. The Polo Gti engine is not that tuneable without spending serious money so it really depends how far you want to go.
If your looking for a large gain they I suggest you uprate the cams, raceland manifold, full de-cat exhaust system, BMC induction kit and a custom code re-map. You should expect 160BHP with those mods, perhaps a little more.
I am expecting 140-145BHP with a raceland manifold, powerflow cat-back exhaust system, BMC CDA induction kit, P-Torque re-map with a BM performance Cat. These should all be finished on mine in the next 3 weeks so I will let you know what result I get on the Dyno.
If you want serious power then get the 1.8 Turbo 20V lump and do the conversion. Thye are good for Crazy power.
Look at Tomo87's polo thread, his black Gti is running around 280BHP. There are a couple of other guys on here with 1.8T conversions so ask them for advice if your considering a serious power gain.
The Polo 6N2 GTI gearbox wont handle serious gains in power, they struggle with 125 so expect more problems when increasing the power.
Hope this helps
Ben

my old Polo was running 140 bhp from re-map, raceland manifold, powerflow zorst and BMC...i went through 3 gearboxes!
1.8T is a different ball game, its a serious piece of kit....i very rarely and i mean rarely have anything beat me to 70mph...hehe

3 boxes

gutted
Did the extra 15BHP make alot of difference to the acceleration?
Was the 0-60 under 8 seconds with the re-map, zort, BMC & manifold
I have bought the Raceland Manifold & BMC and its booked in for the Powerflow at Demon Tweeks then ill get mine re-mapped at P-Torque. Its still on the standard box and has just hit 60,000 miles, bit concerned about the box though running the extra power.

definitely notice the extra power over a standard GTI....and as for the boxes, they wont last long. not sure if you saw my old polo but it was awesome, feature car and the only reason i sold it was because i couldnt be bothered with the gearboxes! still miss it now...

Yeah I saw your old Silver GTI in the picture thread, probably the best looking GTI I have seen.
Looked awesome. Never been keen on the Silver Gti's but yours looked spot on, fair play I am not suprised you miss it.
Have you had any offers for the 1.8T beast yet? seems a steal at just over 6K

ye shouldve popped a 1.8T in that but at the time of the sale i wanted a TT! fool....haha
you would think so but not really, most people dont understand power/weight ratios and think the Polo will be the same speed as any remapped 1.8T car so not loads of interest. it doesnt bother me massively, id like to have something different but the polo is awesome everytime i put my foot down

Have you ever thought of bringing the black GTI 1.8T up to the same standard as your silver GTI?
Rolled arches, BBS rims etc?
I am suprised you have not had any offers on the 1.8T, I imagine you have spent more than 10K getting it to that standard.
I would rather have a 1.8T Modified 6N2 rather than a 9N3 GTI, the newer GTI's are not very good looking in my opinion and I hate the rear lights on them.
Do you get alot of wheelspin when you plant it in 1st & 2nd?
Your Polo is probably the same weight if not lighter than a standard GTI - 1084KG @ 280BHP - 258 BHP per tonne! not bad!!!

it weighs a LOT less than that, about 850-900 kilos as its been on a diet.
no the way we mounted the engine, i can get full traction in 2nd gear in the dry which is very very quick!
i would like to bring the black one up to that standard but it will cost a lot, luckily my project from start to finish owes me £8.5k which is cheap

850-900K? How did you manage to shed that much weight from the Car,
That's lighter than a Saxo! What have you done to loose that much weight from the car?
Yeah 8.5K is not bad for a full conversion, money well spent in my opinion, especially with the amount of power it has.

no aircon, to abs, no rear seats, front seats are light as hell! ermm haha
i think just over 900 is realistic

I was on the same dilemma, what can i do to feel serious difference. I really want big difference but finally i gave up because it just dooesnt worth to spend so much money for tune this engine.
I am driving my car with a re-map, KN filter (panel), and changed whole pipe exhaust system to F55. And the next idea was to change the camshafts but i revealed that this its not gonna work. Because if you want to change it with high degrees camshafts (265 degrees for example) you must change the electronic Fuel Injection (MegaSquirt). And that costs a lot of money with small power effect.
For sure if you want a power just put a 1.8T and may be it will be cheaper.
The produced power with re-map is tangible, but for example i can give this: my remapped polo vs standard saxo VTS - the finish line result was identical. Saxo has weight of 930kg which depends to better start and after that polo has a little overtake bcoz of the chip. So do you really think it worth to spend much money on this engine ?

Its not all about the money spent though, its the pleasure the car gives you when you drive it.
If I was looking for a rapidly fast small hatchback, I could buy a Fiesta RS Turbo for £1000 spend around £2000K on the engine and not many things would keep up with it. The Polo GTI 6N2 is already a rare car and looks awesome, its certainly worth spending money on.
I am told re-map, filter & exhaust will achieve around 140BHP which is not that bad providing you can keep costs down.
I think everybody would love a 1.8T in their 6N2, I know I would!
