check light

... came on on my 1.4 74kW the other night. The car started stuttering and running rough after a few hundred meters from home and the light started flashing at first and then it came on. It stayed on, but the car started to work fine after a few km's. The light disappeared the next day... The light's gone now, but Ithink there's still some hesitation when the car is cold (first couple of 100 m)... What's going on?
I changed the oil (aral blue tronic) and filter just few days before that mishap, but I don't think that's the cause. Do you think I could have water in my fuel? (I filled the tank a day before) Bad ignition cables? Anything else?
