I Think that mk3 beasts bumpers look awsome, so I was wondering how to do it.

theres 2 ways to do it i think,
1,
rub all the bobbles out with sand paper prime and paint,
2,
rub the bumper to let the paint stick u need P180 grit for that, then prime them in high build primer probibly about 3 times to make sure there aint no bobbles left after u rubed them down,
then you should have a nice base to paint onto,
note; that's just a quick explanation of how to do it, to do it propper it takes a lot more time and effort to do it!!

or you can buy pre-smoothed and primered bumpers from VW..
saves a whole lot of time and mess.

and it will be better to uses activated primers for plastic too, so that the paint doesnt flake off, especially as the bumpers are very "waxy"

You *can* get plastic-adhering primer from regular car shops, like halfords etc. Thing is, you may need more than you would reckon... I was considering doing my own bumper up, til I had a go at respraying my wheel trims. Managed to do 3 and 3/4 13" trims with a 300ml can (b*stard! had to squirt a layer of regular primer on top and then mix it all across with a lot of sanding)... that's not an awful lot of coverage, and I was doing it on a wax-free, near perfectly smooth surface to boot - might need a couple of 500ml cans to do a bumper with as conservative estimate. Not cheap. But if you're careful it can be cheaper than a pre-done one. Depends how much your time is worth!

thats exactly why I bought one already done.. A choice of 2 days working on a bumper (probably more) or going to work and earning some over time, means I would actually lose money doing it myself..

hey dub,
does the bumper look really smooth, like body work smooth? only need to get a new front bumper and want them smoothed but i guess itll cost roughly the same and be quicker just to buy 1 like it already.
any pics?
