Hi, im pretty stuck for what to get for my polo.

I have a 2001 1.4 6n2 Match. Which im pretty sure is an 8v.

I have absolutly no idea how id go about getting one to fit my car, and/or what one to get!?

Ive heard or full induction kits, panel filters, cylinder filters.. and a few more!

So, whats best to get? and how do i go about installation!?

Id love to have a cold air intake as ive heard you gain bhp from it.

but then ive also heard a panel filter is the best to get?

Check out my progress thread, i've had most sorts. For our engine your best bet is just upgrading your panel filter. On the 16v / GTi the best is the BMC CDA or an enclosed induction kit. Our engine bay is too awkward to run a good cold air feed. Avoid top mounted filters ie K&N. There are pics of each mounted in my thread. Hope this helps abit.

From just a filter upgrade alone there's little or no power gains to be had unfortunetly

Induction kits are pretty much crap mate so are them performance filters. They do absolutely sod all. Let me explain to you...

Induction kits draw hot air into the engine. The warmer the air the less dense it is. The less dense the air the less power you get. You starve the engine. Therefore the standard enclosed box has a well feed which keeps the air cool and dense which allows your car to run smooth.

Induction kits seem to make noise that's it.

These K&N and pipercross panel filters are absolutely pish poor. The quality of them is crap and the price is outrageous. 40 quid for a filter which doesn't even work properly. The get clogged up very easily and allow a lot of crap to get through in to the engine and they don't filter much. Once they get clogged your restraining the air flow. Which results in pretty much shyt performance. So all in all these "performance" filters do absolutely nothing.

I have a turbo car and I keep the standard filter reason being it filters the most and for 4 quid a filter I'm loving it. My turbo is being filtered properly and allows smooth power delivery. Ask Raz he's seen me blow a few cars away.

My dad has a passat tdi 130. As soon as boost came it was holding back. Put in standard paper filter boosted away fine for a 400 mile round trip. I know what filters to go for.

Another thing your car is 75 bhp is it worth spending money on a filter that's not needed why don't you be wise and spend it on worn bushes etc etc. Make your car in grade A form first before you try make it go any faster.

My advice is to keep your car healthy and reliable keep the paper standard filter. You'll go a long way mate.

true say rix, i spent 70 quid on an induction kit on my TDi and it was nothing but a noise. and it kinda started to p*** me off after a while. as soon as i put the standard air box back in with standard filterm the car was much quiter ad better economy. with the 8v there no point nothing to the engine. you wont get far, thats why i sold mine. if you had a 16v, a remap and stainless steel manifold can make a noticable difference.
