yes it will the lower the ET the more it will stick out of the arch, about et 20 is were it is level with the arch, et 15 et 10 etc will be out of your arch

Yep as James asid it will be fine. You'll probably want to get some 165/50s on them though.

im already running 20 mm spacers to clear my brakes, so would this cause too much hassle trying to get tyres to fit and not stick to far out of the arch?

Yeh they'd struggle with 20mm spacers on. that would make them 15X7 ET 6. That would be hectic without arch work.

well if you work it out from standard et which is about et40 or whatever then et40 take away et26 would give you an extra 14mm so all you would need is 5mm spacers then you have got your 20mm near enough but obviously you need to find out what standard et is on the GTI ;)

RXIIs are ET45. So with a 20mm spacer that's ET25.

The new wheels are ET26, plus they're an extra inch wider than the RXIIs, approximately meaning they'll stick out another 1/4 of an inch out into the arch (going on the basis that the extra inch will be split either side of the centre point of the wheel, however I'm not 100% all wheels work like this).

So if this is true, before the spacers on your new wheels they'll stick out an extra 0.75mm, then add on the 20mm spacers onto your new wheels= 20.75mm further out than your RXIIs with spacers. I doubt you'll get away with that!

Do you have to have 200mm spacers to clear the backs? Or can they be smaller? Or better still, will your new wheels clear the brakes without spacers?

dont really need them on the back Tim, i needed the spacers to clear the calipers. The new wheels i was looking at are the Amils in the for sale section. Do you think they would fit?

No I don't think they will mate if I'm honest. Not with the spacers. Those wheels have a fair bit of clearance on them though, they may clear your calipers without the need for spacers?
