HI All,

I currently am the owner of a clio 182 trophy but i have seen a nice mk4 tdi gt 130 in a garage near me and i am very tempted in swapping.

I like the look of the polo and heard that the power and torque from the engine is very impressive.

I'd be looking at going down the route of slight modifications including a re map, lowered suspension and some nice euro style wheels with stretched tyres etc etc and thats why i've posted on here really.

Has any one got any advice on what to go for with regards to the mods and what to look out for when i go to look at the car? I have read the buying guide and will bare that in mind but any other help would be mint.

Not sure on the prices nowadays for a mk6 ( ) GT TDI but there still over priced lol

I've just bought a Fabia vRS (exactly the same car really) and it's pretty damn good.

130bhp and alot of torque, the best thing to do is get:
exhaust (probly decat as you can pass an mot without one) also get a mk7 gti rear valance so you can have the tilpipes showing, or keep them hidden.
pd160 air intake (from seat ibiza cupra) and a green panel filter
and a good remap.

then after that it's pd150 turbo, hybrid and FMIC which would take you to 220bhp and alot more torque


The polo will be like a boat compared to the clio.. so i'd suggest getting that sorted before thinking about going too fast.

Seat sport strut brace
312mm brakes from an Audi TT or simular (anything with 5x100 i think)
and lowering of some sort, most people go for coilovers on here, but i'm going down the route of 45mm springs and FSD shocks, which adjust automaticaly depending upon how your driving.

i got my gt for a bargin really 5000 but is worth and they are gd every day cars and when you want to they enjoy a thrashing mine only had map and made 175 hp and 280 lbs/ft on tourque

Remap and suspension in my opinion, not sure how much the filters and exhausts actually help the power (I don't know). Certainly pound for performance these are the things to do first.

There are some Weitec coilovers for sale on the forum, I think these are a good make. Remap can be done at loads of places but do some research first and watch out for torque spikes which will ruin the clutch.

Top strut brace is a definite help, just to stop dash creaks

I think the rear ARB would be good as suggested, although I quite like the balance at the moment. Don't do a front ARB as this increases understeer the thicker it gets (it links up the two wheels, making them less independent and actually reducing grip).

Thanx for the feedback i think that the first things are going to be suspension and the strut brace and then looking at a remap a abit later down the line.

One other question what would you say is the most popular wheel + suspension configuration that most people go for on here i.e. 17's + 30mm dropped springs or 16" + coilovers etc etc.

I'm thinking 17" and coilovers to get the wheels nice and close to the arches but it will be my daily driver so i can't be doing with any scrubbing.

the standered gt alloys are good as they are but if you do change them and are selling give us a shout

16 or 17" and coilies norm mate. just depends on the roads you use. my old polo was set up just right in my opinion for everyday driving but also looks.

17's are nice but I find mine a bit heavy for the perfect setup.

You can go pretty low without issues if you spend on the coilovers. I have mine as low as I can without scrubbing and it's fine for daily driving (70 miles a day).

30mm drop i wouldnt bother tbh. Go straight for coilies.

Nice one! I've had my GT over a year now and it's never let me down. Like others have already said the handling isn't great compared to the Clio. I'm getting mine lowered on some KW Springs and shocks in the new year and remapped

That should be it then Mid Range they are pretty rapid, probably similar to the clio to be honest and your gunna be getting much better MPG

p.s - Interesting read this considering I nearly got a Trophy and went for a GT instead

Stick it in 3rd and a remapped TDI 130 will keep up with a lot of things from 30-70, mainly because you don't lose time with gear changes

I'm really pleased with the GT after a few days of diving it i'm getting used to the power delivery and the whole car feels alot more refined than the clio did.

me thinksi made the right choice
