The New Kid

Yo Guys,
I'm new to this forum. The names Hamza... most of my friends call me 'Ninja' though (long story). I've bought myself a VW Polo 1.4CL Open Air in Dragon Green. Cost me £575 from a local auction. As I got in the car to drive it home, everything seemed fine, until I went into 3rd gear. The car made a hideous noise in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear. Took it to my local mechanic with my dad. And he diagnosed me with broken gearbox. Just got that replaced. The gearbox cost me £150 and fitting and an extra service cost me an extra £110. I'm looking to make my car look a bit nicer and want to do a few visual mods. But I'm on a seriously low budget as I'm in full time education, getting £30 a week from EMA and in a rubbish part-time job that gets me around £140 a month. Could anybody give me some ideas on what to do? I want to upload some pics of my baby on here but I don't know how to do it. Look forward to hearing from eveyrbody. Thanks :)

^^ Welcome 8)

To upload pics, go to a photoshare website such as Photobucket and upload your pics there. Once you've done that just copy the 'IMG' to your posts here. If still in doubt then check the FAQ section on the site.

As for ideas just look around on the site for inspirations. Some of the basics are free to do such a taking stuff off your motor ie: badges and rubstrips along the sides. There's plenty of cheap mods you can do.

Cool. Thanks for the help. I'd really like my car to look the part because non of my mates have got VW Polo's. They've all got chavy little 1.0 litre '96-'98 Corsa's. I've been a big fan of VW Polo's since my Mum owned one in 2002 so I got myself as 1.4CL as a first car. I want my car to stand out, and want to do mods that'll obviously make my friends change their mind about my little baby. I'll up some pics and let some people tell me their opinions. Thanks again NOZ :)

theres tonnes of ideas on here youll be able to source out, all depends on taste and overall look of your polo ninja.

alot of ppl opt for the euro smooth style which works real well for these polos and can be done on a budget if need be, ie mk5 rear lights, get a hold of some through a local breakers, and some front and side clear indicators, also removing the 'polo' and '1.4cl' bit on the boot makes it look a little better aswell :) doesnt cost a penny :P
removing the side bumpstrips can be done free of charge, but just be careful taking them off slowly and catiously not to peel any paint :)
slam some nice rims on and drop it down 60 and your on to a win there mate, once summer comes again youll be rocking it out by opening up tht roof and having some serious ride to cruise around in :)

anyway i could banter away all day :P if you have any questions im glad to try help you out and im sure the other guys are too :)

We'll I've just put some xenons on her. I'd love to slam her and get some alloys, but I can't find the money for it. It's around 83 pound a month for insurance and then I've gotta think about petrol. I really want to do something to her lol. I saw some guys thread on here about that purple-blueish 'Polo on a budget' or something. He refurbished the standard VW wheels and they looked awesome in black with the silver lip. I'd love to do that. I'm going to buy a bee sting aerial soon. But I can't even find a cheap car stero :( Life's hard as a teenager lol...
Thanks for the advice racerjonzo. Look forward to hearing from more people.

yea no probs ninja, and ive just turned 20 past on thursday there, so i was a teenager, and ive got a mk5 golf lowered on coilies on 18" gti monzas with a front smooth bumper and all colour coded, and also picked up a polo 6n 16v not long ago as a project, ive stripped it down and rebuilding it to my tastes, but yea most things can be done cheaply, just keep your ears on this for cheap parts in the 'for sale' section and any free mod tips. i seen mk5 rears in a breakers and he only wanted £20 for them.... changes the whole look of the car in a nice way :D
anyway good luck with the polo and keep us updated on the way

Sounds cool.
I might have to go to my local scrappy. See if I can get a set of alloys as well. Btw, I've seen this subwoofer that I'm interested in getting for the time being seen as I only have the door speakers in. Tell me what you think. Not sure whether it'll be good. I'm not looking to rock my whole car, just something that'll give out a nice bass. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT

welcome to the site mate.

In regards to your front bumper rust, I'd definitely get it replaced. The bumper comes in two parts, so you could pick up just the lower half for quite cheap. that's the most cost effective way of doing it.

By xenons do you mean blue tinted bulbs? proper xenon gas bulbs (HIDs) cost around £100

Yeah, I'm talking about the blue tinted bulbs. I also received some blue tinted sidelights with these but for some strange reason they're still yellowish. Why's that?

Yeh tinted sidelights never take well. You'll want some white LED bulbs.

Them LED sidelights look pretty amazing. I only just insured my car today. The engines done 102k miles but my god it's nippy. It leaves my sisters Clio for dead. Hers is a 1.2 but she was impressed by the speeds. My driver side window has died. How can I fix that, because I'm not particular clever with stuff like that. Thanks for the link for the sidelights though.

hey yea to fix your window problem, theres a sticky at the top of the forum to help you, but normally its replacing the motor, as these can go alot on polos, take off the door card and again scrapyard should or could replace this :)
also if theres no sound from the motor then it could be a fuse, if your lucky :P

Nope, theres no sound to the motor at all. If you press it, it doesn't make a noise at all. Another funny thing that happened earlier, because I'm still a new driver, I do get nervous with parking on my drive because I have to reverse it onto the drive and its extremely steep. I have to pull up outside my house in the middle of the road and because my road is quite busy, huge ques of impatient ba***rds always give me dirty looks. Earlier tonight... I popped into reverse gear, literally covered like 2 yards and it popped out of gear. I thought the gearbox had gone again, thank god it didn't. Does your car ever jump out of reverse? It's the first time that's happened to me.

Oh and another thing... I don't have a hot air gun, so will a hair dryer in this weather season be alright for debadging? I'm not so sure "/
