Which alloys?!!

Hi all,
Jus bought my first ever car (1.4 polo yr 2001) off my aunt, a bargain as well. But want to change the crap wheels and get some alloys. I have absolutley no idea about cars so could anybody help me!!
- Which alloy/tyre size would be ok?
- I don't want to messing about with lowering it etc, just want to swap the wheels as i reckon this is the limit of my expertise.
I've tried reading what's on the forum already and what my mates have told me - i believe 15" ones are ok (and a load of numbers like 195/50 R15??!!!) All this PCD, offset etc confuses me as well. Could somebody reommend a site that sells alloys that would suit be fine with my car? or if anybody has some for sale?
Any help would be appreciated. And i apologise for being a retard!!

Hi there!
if you don't want to mess around with lowering your car etc, then the best bet might be to look out for some genuine vw alloys. For example if someone is upgrading from their standard alloys, then buy those.
the good thing is, vw actually have some quite nice factory fitted alloys

cheers for that, would i get those from a dealership? i'll have a look on ebay but they didn't seem to have any yesterday and post a wanted note here.
ii'd love to fit some bigger ones but scared about the whole process etc, is it difficult?

yeah that's what my mate suggested, but what does all that offset and pcn mean?
So if i jus bought some 15" alloys that i liked with those tyres they would fit ok?
Cheers

when i got my set of 15" fox racing wheels, i didnt even know what offset it was. tyres have to be 195/45/15 to avoid any scrubbing!

yeah get sum 15's with low profile tyres, cos if you go any bigger, its gonna need to be lowered abit to smarten it up :p

fox evo1 is a five spoke and fairly cheap.

look for PCD of 4x100 and an offset of 35-38 should be fine.
If you fit 15" alloys on you might want to lower it 30 mm maybe and this will cost you about another 100 for springs.
Best thing to do is get the alloys then see what it looks like and make the adjusments later.

width of wheel can be in the regions of 5.5 to 7.5

i would stick with 14's if you're not wanting to lower it at all.
Edit: try looking at all the polo/lupo forums etc for anyone selling a set of standard ones
wheels 14's

id have t agree i have 5s on mne with 195 45 15 tyres and i had to lower it to make it look any good. stick with the standard alloys about 14''. they made some wicked ones from vw.

I think that the 6 spoke 14" genuine VW ones are called "Keylami". I saw a set on ebay a few weeks ago, but those were the only ones I've ever seen on there. I'd like a set myself, but no cash at the moment. They look really good and suit the car loads. I saw a car that had them on and was sightly lowered and it looked great, so if you get some you may want to do that in the future.
If you get them from a dealer, things do get very expensive though so I'd advise against that. Check with Martyn at VAG parts and breakers yards. Sure you'll find some around.
