why is this so hard

i'm looking for a decent mk5 polo 1.4 for my girlfirend.
i must have looked at about 7 or 8 cars now and they have all been really rough, poorly cared for, dirty interiors no service historys. I really didn't think this would be so hard!!!!! All the semi decent ones are WAY over priced for what they are.
I've tried ebay, autotrader, local dealers, piston heads, all the forums i can think of.
anyone any advice?

mate mine cost me 900 squids at an auction cause the front bumper was a bit smashed upbut it only cost me 60 quid to fix and as you can see from the pics on my thread looks ok... although im seriously bored and hate my car at the min i think thats just due to the 1.4 engine and the fact i really really... REALLY want an audi a3 around a 54 plate... i think i may look into getting one next year but i want a 2 litre and insurance would be a killer

What's your price range? Maybe it's too low.

tim - it's around 2K. surely i can get a decent one for that?!
the auctions may be a good idea but all the vw auctions have to newer a car for sale and i dont trust my local auctions
1900 with FSH!! now thats what i want!!!
i suppose i'll have to be patient then!!

yeah i've looked at a few golfs but they just dont seem as well built as the polos. i've always had golfs (and the odd corrado) and the polo feels much better to drive (apart from the corrado which woops both of them!!).

jordy - the first one has no service history at all and cant prove the mileage
the second one is, ahem, the wrong color (it's for my girlfriend remember)
the third has done 130k!!!
This is how hard it is.
there's plenty of them about but they all seem to have a story
