Hi,
Going to sound quite strange but im after a list of equipment to get from my parents for xmas.

Stuff like

What primers, paint and laquer (what ones for plastic and metal) Red 6n2, But also what is the best brands to use for the purpose of interior, exterior, calipers etc

What sand paper/wet and dry ill need.

Polish (after taking my badges off on my red 6n2, you can still see where the badge was)

I had a lot more ideas on my mind the other day.

Basically im after a car kit that if i wanted to do any thing to my car, i have the stuff to do it.


Things that im interested in doing are stuff like

smoothing the bumpers - whats needed?
spraying the mirrors and rear view mirror
refurbing alloys - Whats needed?
spraying the VW badge
stubby mirror - what to use to spray it?

any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Right well there's a lot of decent paint out there, for most little things though Halfords stuff works just fine.

For stuff like interior mirrors and that, their plastic primer and stain black works just fine. I do everything DIY myself also, but have a rule of thumb where if it comes to the paintwork of the car, I get someone else to do it. therefore I don't go near paint matching and what's a good replica paint etc..

So a kit:

For the Calipers halfords does a nice 'hight temperature paint'. comes in a tin (not spray can), this stuff is good.
Sand paper - just get the multi grade kit, it has grades from 40 -1200 IIRC. That'll do fine for most situations.
For anything plastic interior, engine bay related etc etc go with the plastic primer and satin. this would cover priming stages for your stubby mirror and badge (I'd personally get a shop to do the stubby mirror).
Polish - for that kind of thing I'd try something like Poorboy's SSR3, but if you want something that can be obtained in shops go with Meguiars Scratch X or Autoglym Paint Renovator.
bumpers - Bumpers is another thing I'd leave to a professional, but if you want to give it a crack here's a guide you may want to check out:

Say if i was to do the front badge black.

A very light grade sand paper, couple coats of primer, and then a couple of coats of colour, and its done?

Sand the primer with wet 1200 grit before paint, then laquer to finish. OR vinyl it!

Or buy the black badge on eBay for next to nothing ...
