Squeaky brakes...

They're driving me mad. Every 500 miles or so my rear drums develop a new squeak of some sort, so I dismantle them, clean out the dust, all is well for another 500 miles and then I get a different squeak. Currently it's a kind of persistant, quiet but nagging regular squeak under light braking and the sort of squeak that gets people staring as you go down the street under heavy braking.
So anyway, I'm just writing this on the offchance that anyone has any suggestions, other than clean out the dust (again...). I'll keep my fingers crossed.. such a hassle taking the drums apart.. cheers for any help.

Been thinking about this, but the only thing I can come up with is different brakelinings, either OE or aftermarket, and check if the drums themselves are still ok.
All a bit obvious really, but I couldn't think of anything better...

Thanks, never mind, I wasn't really expecting anyone to have a miracle solution to it.. just hoping

I'll take a proper look at the condition of the brakes tomorrow, may have to replace something I guess.. Thinking about it, the brakes are a bit juddery at high speeds, so I guess the drums might be a bit knackered..

Did you ever find the cause of this? My missus 1.4 has developed this (amongst other things - like a Cat that sounds like a bucket of nails!)
Got the drum off tonight but you think I could get it back on??! Eventually got it on, but the wheel is binding so much the car won't move
Anyone got any ideas?
