Since this morning my car was fine!

Till i go to go out at about 8 o clock tonight. Its frozen over, so i grab the scrapper, do all the windows, go to go in side the car and the door wont open!

Which has happened before (frozen door to the car), normally with a slightly harder pull the door releases and opens.

How ever, when i went to pull, nothing..

Nothing happened at all. so i go to try the passenger door, and nothing again. i try the rear doors, and they opened fine.

i peer through and saw that the pin for the lock was down, i tried my key fob, and saw that it didn't move.

So i pulled it up manually, go to open the doors again and still nothing! no resistance on the handle either!

Since i pulled the pins up, the key fob was working as it should, so i know its not an electrical issue.

i tried with the key in the barrel and it was very VERY stiff but the pins moved but still the door wouldn't open!.

i then try to open it from the inside pull handle. and there is no resistance on that handle either!

WTF has happend?!

the lock mechanism has frozen inside the lock - its an air fed lock, so pulling up the pin wont move the mechanism if its frozen in place. Wait for it to defrost and all should be well

After leaving it to warm up i eventually got in the front doors.

How ever im thinking if there is any thing i could rub or spray on the mechanism to prevent it from freezing.?

Im worried if i cant get in the rear doors, how on earth would i be able to heat the car up! lol

Does a lubricating oil not work?

My dad recommended spraying the locks with oil (because it lowers the melting point of water, so it doesn't freeze over?)
Maybe I'm wrong, but it sounds right..
