Hey Hey, new here so be nice :)

Im going to see 3 GTi's tomorrow. 2 with 33k one with a "apr" Map (anyone got one?) and the other without. Another which is standard again apart from Full leather and sat nav but it has 49k :( and is the same price and reg as the other two.
Im wondeing is it possible to fit say leathers from a Golf?
Thanks in advance Guy

Apr software is some of the best software around. And reliable too. I have had this software on my car for over 3 years too without problems. And golf seats are not a direct fit. WHy not just get the cloth seats re trimmed if the car you choose has not hot leather fitted

GEARBOX is about your only thing to look for, especially on early 06 - 56 plates

if the syncromesh has gone in 1st - 2nd, when changing gear at high revs in first, it will grind

there was an official recall about this but it was not made public knowledge, i had this issue on both my 06 polo gti and my 56 polo gti, i rejected the red 06 polo gti due to the fault after 3000 miles and got the black one i have now, fully loaded spec wise for less than the red one, same thing after 8000 miles

after a 2 month battle with vw and having already rejected my first gti with the same fault, i threatened with legal services and court, my car was retained and had a brand new clutch and gearbox fitted by vw free of charge which i have the invoice for totalling over £1900, which is still to this day, 2 years and 13000 miles later problem free.

the recall now stated only the syncromesh is replaced, and not the full box

its a costly problem, so watch out for it

the only other thing is how the car was initially ran in will depend how much oil the car uses, sounds worse than it is, but the engine uses oil to protect vital componants such as the turbo, so dont be too alarmed if you see this happening, cars vary, and so the consumption will too, i ran both my gti's in gadually from brand new, not exceeding 4000 revs for 2000 miles then not over 6 for a further 1000 miles, but the black one uses much less oil than the red one ever did

i know you cant really control or see this on a test drive, but maybe checking the oil level whilst cold on the car, and asking how long it was since its last service may help you here a bit

also look for examples which have had the front brakes and suspension uprated, because these are poor in standard form, plenty ok for 150 bhp, but lets be honest, most gti's get tuned and they soon become the weaker link

Thanks for the advice buddy :)
Unfortunatly i didnt read this in time. I bought one today a 06 plate leather, sat nav, Parking sensors 50K miles for just under 9K FSH.
I did give it a good eating the box seemed nice and tight. HOPEFULLY all is well :) it comes with 3 months guarentee from redline so il find out within that time.
Seems like a great car. I thought the turbo kicked in rather late? i read a Map sorts that out?
Im really excited

the turbo on standard seems to be neither there or not, not much kick, more like a n/a car to drive

a remap will sort this and throw you back in the seat when it hits boost at about 3k revs

So looks like breaks are best done before the map then Better pads and discs or ideally the Leon Cupra set up? Not really wanting to pay all that tbh.
And suspention...Hmm ive only really had one experience with a aftermarket dealer and that was Koni but only on a pugeot 1.4.
