dunno if its just my gti or all are the same. but its rubbish at demisting!! sometimes it takes 10 mins before the air con is even workin properly ( hearing it start and affectin the revs) and then it takes 10+ mins to demist. then if i leave the car for 10 mins or so i have to start all again. obviously the weather isnt helping. wondered if anyone else has similair problems.

my polo is in for repairs at the mo and i have an audi a3 cover car and it doesnt mist up at all/ had no problems

Yeah i have the same problem as you mate. Mines the 1.9 TDi, i switch the heaters on full with the air con and it takes ages for it to clear just the drivers side. You see like a little patch dissapear, but it takes time for that one patch to expand and clear the windscreen. I thought it was a problem with the air con, so took it back to vw and they say its fine? My citroen c2 was never this bad.

My 9N is the same, the blowers on the screen never seem to come on very strong as if it's losing air somewhere else. Not sure if it helps turning all the other vents off?

I'd expect that you would need to keep any "uncontrolled" vents shut when selecting demist - by that I mean the centre pair of vents - and maybe even the outer pair. I hope you remember that at below something like +6C, the A/C chiller is inhibited to prevent it freezing up some of the pipe work - it is the chiller that removed the moisture from the cabin air and so removes the misting of the screen. One last thing, the heat from theh heater system that warms up and helps clear the windscreen is only waste heat from the engine, so in colder weather it will take longer for the car engine to warm up enough to dump heat out into the heater circuit. Modern TDI engines have become so thermally efficient that they do not create enough waste heat quickly at the outside temperatures that a lot of us are experiencing - so that also causes problems. One last thing, your car might just have a water leak somewhere, in the door seals, washers etc, or you might be taking a lot of snow into the car which will end up as being water either on the rubber mats which you should have for winter use, or worse, soaked into the fabric mats and staying there until the weather gets better. With rubber mats you can mop up the water so this avoids some of the misting up of the windows.

vents are all off. i can see a line where the air is coming up but just takes ages to move anywhere up the windscreen :S

I'm not sure if I've looked for the drain hoses for the sunroof on the Polo - there should be four of them, I do seem to remember that the B5 Passat ones are quite visible - maybe two (front ones) in door hinge post and two under rear of rear wheels. I'd take great care if investigating them so that you do not poke something down them and push the hoses of the sunroof frame.

will do buddy. there is a small hole..about the size of a 5p piece un passenger footwell going through to engine bay(phone kit i think) could that be causing some of it??
