Springs/Shocks vs. Coilovers

Here's the situation..
Currently on 195/45/16 and want to get lowered around 40mm so the wheel just fills the arches
Still want a comfortable ride (reason i left my pug106 for polo)
Need to be able to carry people at the back without any rubbing
Don't want to spend too much (£200 max)
Problems in deciding..
Jackson Tuning coilovers and hottuning - heard they give a firm ride
BUT they are adjustable
Jackson Tuning Springs and uprated shocks 40/40 - not adjustable
BUT nicer ride than coilovers
Currently swaying towards springs because i rather have a more comfortable ride.. but how comfortable are they, the same as standard?
Also heard something that driveshafts knacker when lowered??
What are your opinions?
