As you know i am looking to repair my 6n2 gti.
How much of a task is it to fetch off the bumper and slam panel?
It looks to me as if the bumper is held in place by a series of bolts, is this correct?
As for the slam panel i really don't know.
Thanks,
Dan

Really Really Easily.
Tools:
Bumper:
T25 Star Drive
Ratchet
Slam Panel:
13mm Socket
T30 Star Drive
Either jack the car up and remove the wheel, or simply put the car on the lock. E.g working on the drivers side wheel, put it on full left lock.
The bolts holding the bumper on ARE. The wheel arches, pretty self explanatory when you look at them. Just the ones at the front that you can visually see holding the bumper. You can take the whole arch out, its not necessary though. Just undo all the T25 bolts in there, and undo the two 10mm nuts up by the strut.
Once you've got rid of all the bolts from the wheel arches, next you need to remove the grills where the Fogs are, mine where held in with a Phillips screw, Not too sure if this was meant to be but they were. Theres one T25 screw behind each of the Grills, Remove them.
Next open the bonnet and remove the indicators, a little black thing on the outside of the headlight near the wing. You pull it up and it releases the spring for the indicator, wiggle the indicator free. You'll see a T25 screw behind that as well, take that out.
Lastly, in the wheel arch, where the bumper goes round and meets the wing. Underneath you'll see one last T25 screw, take that out either side.
Laying under the car, you'll see a row of t25 screws underneath the bumper as well - Self explanatory.
The Grill clips into the area where the bonnet catch is. You can push it out, easier just to wrigle the bumper free, and it'll click out with a bit of a tug.
Then you'll see the slam panel.
Undo the T30 bolt/screw in the middle, then undo the 13mm nuts that hold it onto the chassis. Roll it free and it's off.
Any questions, just drop me a PM or something.
Can get pictures of you really need them!

I cant thank you enough for this info!
some of my bolts are already out from the impact, so less to remove i suppose.
had a look, as best i could, tonight with the bumper and panel still on, the damage seems very marginal in behind the bumper. hopefully just a case of sourcing parts and then a respray.
