Help installing a new horn.

I bought the stebel nautilus horn a short while back, and decided to have a crack at it,

When looking at the horn wires, they seems to be very short and the fact i only have a small grill hole to play with with out taking the bumber off!

So, i wondered if it could extend the wires. Which wire would be adequate to use?

And the extend them i was thinking of using these and heat shrink them tight. :

Also it came with a relay. is that really needed?

And if it is, how would i go about wiring that up?

Thanks.

Yes, you do need a relay as otherwise you will fry your wiring and/or horn switch.
I assume you have a 87/30, 85/86 type relay?

Here you go: http://www.ado13.com/techs/relay.htm

Point 85 and 86 connect to the existing wires at the horn (does not matter which wire goes to which), 30 goes to the fused connection at the battery and 87 goes to the new horn itself.

Hmm thats still confusing for me.

I only have (essentially) 4 wires to play with.

The + and - on the existing car wires that are linked to the existing car horn.

and the other + and - wires i will have to put in my self to go from the relay to the new horn.

Very confusing lol.

So, cut the car horn wires. Im left with 2 wires, a positive and a negative. Which of these connect to which numbers?

and then for the new wires for the new horn. from the positive and the negative on the horn, which connect to the other 2 numbers?

Also for the new wire, if you know, which wire should i be using?

Thanks for the time and help you've given me.

Ok in easy terms.

You connect the positive from the existing horn to 86
You connect the ground (negative) from the existing horn to 85
You connect the new horn positive to 87
You join the new horn ground to the existing horn ground cable
You join a new wire directly from the positive on the battery to 30 ensuring you fit a 10A fuse inline with this wire for safety

The new wire should be a decent quality one. Something like a meter of this from maplins will be fine http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=6200

Is that right?

If so what should i use to connect the negative of the horn to the negative wire from the car?

Also is this right for the inline fuse?

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=24539

or will i need a tube fuse like the one i used for my audio install?

thanks. for all you help!

Ok great!

One last question! Promise! lol

About connecting the 2 negative wires. What should i use?

Negative horn to negative wire of car (thats going to the relay).

I have to join the negative of the horn to the negative on the car,

but the negative on the car is already connected to the relay.

so i need to make a join between the wires.

What connect should i use to make this join? a sort of T join.

imagine to the of the top of the T is the is from the car to the relay

and the bottom is ground horn to the join.

Your new horn will be fixed using bolts. Those are the negative of the horn itself. No cross wires required, just wired exactly as per Alex or my description.
