Bumper Strips. Please For The Love Of God Help Me.

I need them replaced with body coloured ones.

I BEG that someone helps me, or directs me to a site where I can buy them. I'm willing to pay like £300 for them.

I have a pearl diamond black Polo E and the bumper strips REALLY ruin the look of the car but I can't find them on ANY spare parts website. :(

I have found Wing mirror covers primed (they are £15 each but the bumpers are my priority) so surely there are bumper strips too.

Anyone have any ideas? I don't want to sand down the originals and paint them.

Thanks. :)

How about these? Dont think he has them all but would certainly save you a bit of money as you wont have to buy all of them from the dealers

also you dont have to ruin your original ones :D

A decent bodyshop quoted me £180 to remove, smooth, prime, spray and re-fit the original textured ones. Just do that :)

Ash :)

Hi thanks for the replies.

It's a Polo E 9N3.

I wouldn't trust any of the bodyshops here in Belfast :D . . I'm sure all the bumper strips would be sanded different amounts and thus every bumper strip would look different and probably even worse than the hideous plastic that Volkswagen love ruining their cars with :(

How would I find out my local VW parts supplier? Is it a business who orders parts for any make? . . .or is it like a Volkswagen dealer who also supplies the parts.

Thanks again. I'm dying to get them replaced with the "S" model ones. :(

http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/find-a-retailer Type in your Postcode and click parts.

Or an alternative is you could remove the bump strips, filler the exister gaps and then sand it down then repaint

Thanks a lot for that link :)

I've e-mailed all 5 Volkswagen Dealers.

Will they actually be able to get the parts do you think?

Oh ho.

My question has been passed on by Gareth Crooks (who I thought was a football commentator!) to the parts guys who will get back to me.

Exciting :)

Thanks again for the link Karson.

He replied saying:

We can order these parts for you . . .give us your Chassis number and we'll give you a price.

I'm dreading the price as God knows how much it will cost to have them professionally fitted and colour coded painted :D:D

You can't fill in plastic that easily. It bends and cracks. The doors leave holes so that's a welding job. Best to colour code.

I sanded mine myself, you can buy textured bump strips for about £80 (VAGParts.com) or get primed ones for about double that.

If I had to do it again I would buy the primed ones and forget sanding.

Will cost you about £100 for someone to paint and fit primed ones. So say about £250 in total.

Agreed with David Burton. Max will be around £200 mark (fingers crossed). But as soon as you get them don't fit them in. Take them to a local body shop with them off, as they can paint it easier this way and MAY, not saying will, but may charge you less. Depending on how lazy the guys are :P But should be around the £200 mark. Hopefully!

I'd be thrilled if they gave me the parts for just £160 :O

Would a bodyshop be the people that paint and fit, or would that be two separate businesses?

I was always going to bring the new primed ones to the bodyshop not on as there's no way I'd do any of that stuff :D. . .I changed my grille but I wouldn't dare go near anything else such as paint and stuff. :D

EDIT: Unfortunately vagparts.com seems to be shut down so I can't even get that good price if the VW dealer is too dear.

Body shop would be paint and fitted. Or most places would be. But bump strips aren't hard to put in place. There are rivet holes for you to guide your bump strips into and clip them into place.

Would be just like placing a grille into place, apart from these are a bit more longer :)

It's getting the old ones out that would scare me. Scratching the door paint or something :)

Front pieces are £15 each.
Back is £35
Sides are £35 each and there are four.

Will probably order on Monday.
