- oil filter: located at the bottom, at the front of the engine. Unscrew the old one, lube the gasket of the new one with some oil, screw the new one on. Tighten by hand.
- fuel filter: located at the rear of the car, behind the gas tank. Uncrew one screw, holding the plastic bracket. Unclip the plastic clips holding the fuel lines. Replace fuel filter (mind the arrow indicating flow), reattach fuel lines, clips and the plastic bracket.

As said before, but with a few extras :P

Do this with a warm engine - very important!

Remove sump plug from bottom of engine, drain out all old oil, replace sump plug with a new one (advised). Remove oil filter from engine, allow remaining oil to drain out, clean block with a clean rag or similar, oil the gasket of the new oil filter with new oil, screw it back on HAND TIGHT until by hand, you can tighten it no more. The oil system is pressurised, so it will tighten itself further. Remove the dipstick and filler cap. Put in 3.5 litres of fresh oil (I normally do to 3ish and then start the engine let it run for a few minutes, then check the oil level on the dip stick and top up to suit). Then your done!

As for fuel filter, it is important to depressurise the system before you replace the filter. As taken from my DIY guide:
1. Jack the rear of the car up and support it on axle stands ensuring the front wheels are chocked

2.Remove the fuel pump fuse (number 40) Third row...6th from the left including the first.

3.Start the engine and if it wont start you have successfully depressurised the system. If it does start, let it run until it has stopped.

4.The fuel filter is situated underneath the fuel tank at the rear of the car (its on the back of the tank)

5. Remove the screw from the retaining clamp

6. You need to remove the pipes, noting first the direction of the arrow on the fuel filter. This can be done by pressing the tabs on the connections together and popping the connections off, or alternatively levering a large screwdriver underneath the lip of the connections to make them 'pop' off. Recommend you get a large rag to catch the fuel that spills out - there will still be a little pressure in the pipes so just be careful and dont be alarmed if you get fuel coming out the pipes for a few seconds.

7. Fit the new filter into position, and 'click' the pipes back onto the filter ensuring that you have put it with the arrow facing the same way as the old filter.

8. Reinstall the fuel pump fuse and start the engine. It may take a few seconds to start as the lines repressurise. Let it run for a few minutes while you check the connections on the fuel filter to ensure there are no leaks

9. Lower the car and youre done!
Any questions just ask :)

Ah theres a few extras on the GTI.

You must unplug the air con clutch connector which is next to the oil filter by pressing the metal clips on the side together and pull it off.

You can get to it better from underneath, but youll need a decent long spanner to undo it from the car!

I have never bothered to depressurise the fuel system... if you do that as the last job the pressure is less.... Just be prepared to take some fuel to the face! :D

If you cant get the filter out because its tight.... there is just enough space to get a long screwdriver... hammer it through the side of the filter and use that as a lever to loosten the filter... then undo by hand :)

I don't touch the air con clutch connector, I simply remove the heat shield and get a big wrench down there! It often helps to work from underneath if your having troubles reaching it from above also.
