Which side is it? If you have nimble fingers you might be able to do it without removing the bumper, but the usual method is in fact to remove or partially remove the front bumper in order to take the headlight out and replace the sidelight bulb before putting everything back together.

I myself took my car to VW and they changed my sidelight bulbs for a £20 fee whilst I enjoyed a coffee and had a read of Autocar

... remove the bumper... WTF!!

On the drivers side you need to remove the air feed... 2 screws and a bolt.... Then you can unscrew the back of the lamp to access the bulbs..

On the pasenger side, unbolt and remove the battery.... then unscrew the three screws from the back of the lamp to access the bulbs....

A small mirror can be used to help find the screws on the back of the lamps..... do it a few times and you will remeber where they are :)
