First of all, welcome to the forum Benno :)

Got yourself a nice car, and good choices going for the Angel Eyes and 8K HID's :D Are you planning on getting Black Angel eyes? Or chrome?

Kar :D

Cheers man :-)

Probably the black angels, any ideas how difficult they are to fit? Bumper removal ect?

Thanks

Well to be honest with you yes. But I left my bumper hanging as I changed mine. What you have to do to completely remove the bumper is take the undertray off, and I was lazy and couldn't be arsed to jack up the car to remove it from the bottom so I just pulled it and left it hanging :D Works for me! :D And it's just a simple plug and play, although you may need to do a bit of tapping into wires to get your sidelights (halo rings) to come on :D

Hope this helps.

welcome to the forum mate,
nice little car you have there, just needs some bigger rims, a nice drop and watever you want for performance
the standard lights on the Gti are nice enough but if you want a change you have a few options, angel eyes as you know of already (get black with a black car) or daylines which i have, both look cool.

you have to take your bumper off and ass karson ses you can leave the bottom hanging, thats exactly what i did when i fit my daylines  aslong as you can get around the light you dont need to detatch it fully, its a pretty easy job as i did it in the snow in minus degree weather n found it easy (never done it before). as for your remap your better off asking someone with a gti as mines a Tdi  so cant really help you much there. i dont think everyone with a remap tells insurance  but thats up to you agen.

Gudluck with your mods and welcome to the forum agen 8)

I was looking atthe revo select switchable map sine a friend of mine had a superchips map on his golf tdi, but when it went into VW to get something fixed (service I think, not entirely sure) they seem to have reset his ecu back to standard.

What are the chances of this happening, is it worth going for a switchable map?

Cheers

btw, what do you mean by gti lights? I was under the impression that the lights were the same as any polo 06+ gti or not??

I know nothing about engine tuning, only exterior styling so this is all way over my head :D haha.

As what zedzo said, it was my first time too in the rain for removing my bumper and changing lights, took me awhile but I was careful not to make any snapping decision. But it was easy enough, also, If you got the money I would definately go for zedzo's lights. The dayline look amazing at night and is never a let down, as for the Angel Eyes, the rings may not stand out as much if you have HID's. Which is a shame.

The standard 9n3 headlights have a chrome backing piece, whereas the backing piece in the headlights on your gti is black. Makes it look much cooler.
Nice car though, having a switchable map sounds like a good idea, as you already mentioned it would be pretty useful if you were ever involved in an accident or something.
Just out of interest, how do you actually go about swapping the maps? Plug something into the diagnostic port or something like that?

Yeah mate, according to Revo, it sounds as simple as turning a switch to change the map (pluged into the OBD port ofc)

More info on it here, Serial Port Switch:

They are the standard 9n3 lights. |Notice how they are more chrome instead of black.

when you have a remap it changes a mapping code in your ecu. If the dealer or any other garage that can do software updates for your ecu during a service carries out one of these updates they can revert the code back to its original state. - this is what i was told by revo and my mechanic. However revo and most others do reinstall your software free if this happens. obviously keeping all relavent paperwork is a good idea!! :D BUT obviously insurance could find it if they really wanted to. Im told not many dealers have the diagnostics required from bosch to detect a change in mapping but who knows, im passing on what iv heard - apparently thats what forums are for!

I got the select plus from gti international (when i had it chipped) i got it free (show special) but for the normal £250 or whatever it is, dont bother! I searched the web for the best settings (cos u can alter boost, timing and fuel) set them and i think iv used it once when testing against boss's new mk6 gti running standard against remapped. Get urself down to a revo dealer with a rolling road n they will set it up for you!

and welcome!
