Turbo cut-out / Safety?

Hi guys. Was just wondering if anybody has ever had a similar situation happen to them as what happended to me. Was coming of a slip road, down onto the motorway, booting it, nowhere near redlining it. Got to around 80 - 90, and next minute car just nose dives, speedo drops right down, rev counters drops to bout 2000 revs, and turbo whistle just stops. No warning lights came up on the dash. Ended up having to drive around 20 miles with the car running slower than a 1 litre corsa :(....Its like it went into some kind of safe mode. However, when i pulled up, switched the engine off, then restarted it turbo fired back up again. I couldnt quite understand what happened. Since then, it really doesnt feel as responsive as it did. Since i had the remap and exhaust, it was really nice and quick, but now it just seems dead. I have had it plugged in to a computer to check the ecu for error codes but all is clean, and have had a quick look around all my pipes and exhaust for possible breaks / leaks but cant see or hear anything. Anybody got any ideas? Any advice would be much appriciated. Cheers :)

sounds like the ecu has put the car into "limp-home" mode , so basically shut off all boost to save the engine and/or the turbo. Think im correct in saying it does it when boost levels exceed the maximum deemed safe by the ecu , either something to do with the map or maybe the vanes on the turbo have got stuck in the position where its directing max air flow into the turbine blades.

you got into limp mode mate, usually it is to do with overboost because of the map. used to happen with my old pd100 turbo all the time, u dont need to drive like that, all you do is turn it off n switch it on, slowly it ll gain full power again but it ll be alot faster as soon as it restarts.
havent hadit with my new turbo yet but then again its not custom mapped. nothin to worry about tho

Cheers for the replys guys. I suppose i can feel a little better now, knowing that it isnt something majorly wrong. Was considering gettin the map taken off, so i could go back to VW and let them have a look, but i thought maybe not a wise idea after having a straight through put on. I just thought it was a little wierd as it had never done that before, and i have had a lot more out of it before. Am looking at getting the PD130 turbo eventually, so that should be fun.
