Hey,

Does anyone know if a 16" alloy with tyre on fits in the space where all the tyre weld is and pump etc?

I'd think that if you have used 16" wheels with the factory sized tyres then the only issue might be that the wheel will cause the boot covering to lift if its too high. My daughter has a new Ibiza SC and her leaking 215/40 X 17 alloy fitted in okay although it might just have lifted the boot covering just a bit (her spare was a steel 16" but not space saver). Smart thinking if you are dumping the foam and compressor and buying a proper spare wheel as quite often the tyre damage will mean that the foam can not be used - I know some one who bought a Punta Grande and it only had foam and a compressor - and trashed a tyre - Fiat support, the RAC or AA, and they just said use the foam it WILL work - he realised that with a large visible hole in the tyre it wouldn't, so had to wait for a recovery truck to take him home - luckly it did not mess up his weekend too much - though he did have to arrange for a mobile tyre guy to sort things out as the car does not come with a jack or a wheel brace - he has learned his lesson.

In my daughter's case, its taken a week for a tyre to arrive as nobody on the high street stocks or could order a new Goodyear Excellance 215/40 X 17 87V XL, good old "mytyres" came up with the goods I believe!

Yeah i'm thinking of going on a little road trip in Europe in the summer. Want to put another GTI Monza alloy with tyre in the spare wheel well...

If nobody has done this and can say whether or not it fits, i'll just take a wheel off and try!

Cheers

PS - Glad your daughter got it sorted :)

16 inch wheels fit in no problem I have 16 on the car gti spec and a full size in the boot fits perfect. Fill your boot if you excuse the pun.

Good to know this thanks, Im putting 16" on mine in the next few days and need to sort the spare out.

So your saying you can fit a 16" in and close the boot carpet cover?
